Mackenzie Shirilla has been sentenced to 15-years-to-life in prison for the deadly 2022 crash that claimed the lives of 20-year-old Dominic Russo and 19-year-old Davion Flanagan.
Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Nancy Margaret Russo sentenced Shirilla to 15-years-to-life in prison for both murder charges she was found guilty of, with the two sentences to be served concurrently. She will also receive credit for time already served and have her driver's license permanently suspended.
The sentencing means that Shirilla will first be eligible for parole in 15 years.
Family members of both victims addressed the court at Monday's sentencing, as did Shirilla's mother. A sobbing Shirilla read a statement apologizing to the families involved.
"To the families of Dom and Davion, I am so deeply sorry," she said. "I hope one day you can see how I'd never let this happen or do it on purpose. I wish I could remember what happened. I'm just so sorry. I'm heartbroken. I loved Dom and Davion. We were all friends and Dom was my soulmate. I wish I could take all your pain away. I am so sorry. And to my family, thank for the support and all the love you guys give. Thank you for fighting with me. I love you all so much."

2 premeditated murders... And ONLY gets 15 years? The system is broken (Edit - I know she only has the chance of parole at 15 years. But as long as she acts like she's sorry and isn't a fool, she 100% will be released after 15 years. Which is BS)

15 to life means the parole board dictates release after 15 years. In most cases; she will not be awarded parole for at least another 15 years or more. Whenever or if she gets paroled; she will be on lockdown still with harsh parole rules and regulations. She’s not getting out of her crimes; she’s living those criminal restraints for the rest of her pitiful life. Learn how the law works.

15 to life. That’s still means she will more than likely serve life in prison. You think other inmates are going to let her survive that long for what she did? Pfft! She’s dead before her life expectancy Bub. In a legal sense: the parole board will not be able to convene until after those 15 years; yet still most of the time the parole board will not grant release. Do you know anything about prison? Any time in prison is a cruel punishment, prisons in the US are some of the most heinous and horrible places in the world. In 15 years this girl will be lucky if she's even still a person. Even if she gets out, the damage will be permeant, and that's just the psychological part. She will also never be able to hold down a good job as a felon, and she will never escape the fact that people know what she did. It really doesn't matter what the sentence is, her life is over. Some would say she "deserves" that, but that too is a backward way of thinking. What she needs, is help. Rehabilitation. She should be remade into a productive member of society, rather than be locked in a cage that society now has to pay for, and from which she will never recover.

Wow! Most of the time, a cold-blooded murderer gets at least 20 years to life. This disgrace of a judge was probably paid off. 😢😢😢 Why would a judge give her only 15 years and time served for killing two people? Ask yourself why? Her old and tired voice says it all. 😢😢😢

Could it be that she was still a minor when she did it?

@@ellenjones9892 I know technically she was a minor, but she turned 18 two days later and the judge even addressed that in her sentencing statement. She said that she believes that she purposely did it before turning 18 because she knew that the penalty would be harsher. There’s a video from a true crime creator that shows everything. It’s really good. ✌🏻🥰😊 *EDIT - the video was done by Annie Elise*

15 years was too lenient, condolences to the bereaved family. This girl knew what she was doing and 30 years would have sufficed.

Why is it that when their victims get a death sentence, she has the capability to be in society in 15 years ? Are the victims going to be alive in 15 years?

She purposely and intentionally murdered those two young men. To sentence her to 15 years to life is a travesty of justice. This judge failed her oath. This is not justice for this murderer.

Concurrently means at the same time. Consecutively means one after the other. As the charges are to be served concurrently, it's essentially 15 to life with credit for time served, not an automatic 30 with credit. But the judge also doesn't believe the parole board would let her out in 15 or so years.
