I'd recently purchased the SRT12 for a gig on Halloween and returned it a week after. Like you said, it just didn't have the full range with some kicking thumps. It was still a great speaker with great highs and mids, but it was missing that third dimension of sound. What I absolutely love about the SRT and Mackie's technology is no matter where you stand in front of the speaker, that sound it produces is dynamic and constant throughout the volume range--you'd definitely still need subs to pair up with. I did eq it internally running from a separate mixing board with the subs running through a separate aux line (better and cleaner control of the bass), but it didn't perform as "loud" as another lower brand I have. The sound SRT gives out is perfect for the late 90's R&B and Hip Hop like those produced by Jermain Dupri, Timbaland and Puff Daddy because of the bells, sound effects and synthesizers they use in almost all their remixes, but for something with more bass like Weeknd and 50, the tops need to have a little bit more kick even with a sub paired to it. What I'm actually waiting to purchase is the SRM-V, but supply chain is still hurting us.

What was that brand that was lower price and louder?

Whats up bro ? And thanks for a long detailed answer. Im a Dj just to point that out. I play mostly Techno and Psytrance and other generes. I planing to host both indoor and outdoor Raves in the forest. I planing to buy 2 x 15" speakers and 2 x 18" subs. Im also looking at the SRM vs the SRT models. Whats you'r thoughts and did you go for the SRM ?

@DJLEOdamadprofessor believe it or not, Guitar Center's Harbinger 3112 was the one I was referring to. With an external mixer. I had a fuller sound, which is still clean with the volume at the 3 o clock position.

@theaverageguy3884 I did go for the SRM, and it's phenomenal. The lows that were missing in the SRT were not missing in the SRM. Out of the box, it sounds punchy and full, but eq without or without the sub, and it's just next level clearer, clean, and even more dynamic. For its price, sound and functionality, I can't really think of another brand that can beat it.

Thanks for sharing. Im a Dj looking for my first set of speakers and subs. For me sound clearity is a must, i love a clear and crisp sound over that louder thump/pump or what you call it. Im a Techno Dj so the speakers will be pumping out electro music for 99% of the time. In both in and outdoor events. Are there a big difference in tje SRT and SRM Mackie series ? Or can you recomend any other brand that you think is better ? 🙏

Thanks for this Cleveland. I'm really interested in the V class sound. I currently use QSC K12.2 and a set of KW181's. I've been looking around for something that's a bit lighter weight and good sounding. What I have sounds good, but at the end of the gig those subs are extra heavy.

Hey Cleveland, I’ve done some Dj-ing in my time, but I’m a sound guy at heart. I like live sound for bands, and a good corporate party! Naturally I had a fierce loyalty to JBL and EAW… I’ve used the Mackie Thumps before, they are MEH IMO, they should stick to making soundboards. (I’m a audiophile sound snob) 😂 If you want a set of powered speakers that you will never ever have to replace then go with or at least check out RCF and get back to me with your thoughts. Yes, made in Italy and rather pricey ( the RCF ART735 Mk4 is about a grand per unit 😬). But I can tell you that for most cases you will not need an extra sub (even though they have the option available). Once you hear them, you’ll consider replacing all your other speakers (even the JBL’s) on all your rigs. I’ve never heard cleaner sound ! And the range and bass response is insane! Just food for thought Cleveland, from one professional to another.

Mackie. Lol. I remember when the SRM450 was the "standard" that everyone was raving about. I first heard them at a club back in the day and was impressed by the highs and mid throw. I went out and bought a pair because everyone was raving about them. Got them home, took them into the garage, hooked them up and thought.... WTF? Absolutely NO kind of semi-decent bottom end. Packed them right back up, took them back to where I got them, had the sales person do a side by side comparison with a Yorkville NX55P and the end result was night and day. A crowd grew around the two speakers in the store and people started laughing at the shitty and harsh sound of the Mackie compared to the Yorkville. Ended up exchanging them for a Pair of Yorkville NX55Ps and those speakers lasted me years. I was laughing at all the guys who were bragging about their SRM450 speakers because they thought they were cool by having them. I loved how easy it was to heat that speaker up and then it would turn off for a minute lmao. What crap. You can't use a Mackie WITHOUT a sub. Even at small venues. When played at moderate levels the Yorkville speakers sound like you have a sub hidden somewhere, where as with the then "industry standard" Mackie, there was absolutely no bottom end. Horrible speakers to use if not used with a sub. I'll never buy a Mackie powered speaker. I have a pair of Yorkville PS12Ps and they POUND.🤪🍺

Mackie makes some good products and there studio monitors sound amazing. Sounds these are active speakers and the built in amp will always limit your bass output on most pa systems meaning you won't get that earth shaking bass. Have had greater success with custom enclosures on a passive subwoofer because you can really tune frequency of the bass with a good subwoofer and matching amp to really good some hardcore thump. You also have more configurations and go with smaller subs just to give you more options. But this setup looks gorgeous definitely quality equipment no doubt.

I'm going to make comments on these mackie speakers which I own both the original heavy @$$ 18" sub then I got the SRT both 15 and 18". To replace the 18" due to the premature thermal going off and then it stop working. It's not cheap replacing the circuit that goes out easily to my suprise after doing two gigs I had this thermal led light go off and not yet having played any music yet. At first I thought it was the temperature outside which was in the summer and the speakers was out in the heat but shouldn't effect them, because the 15" were in the same situation. I just wish the mackie can make having these speakers fixed within my city location and not charge a boat load for the part or at least make it available when it cost $1000 to begin with. I really love the speakers but man the parts needs to be accessible for the owners to ordered and for crying out loud fix the damn premature thermal warning. I know the limit to not blow my speakers. Not only that two 18" sitting in my trailer for repair, I pretty much gave up and will be replacing them with another 18" shooting for QCS since I've rent them along with the 15" mackie and it work out great....

Yes they were. The SRM450v2 was the all time best. These speakers were not made for heavy bass, instead the build was made for throw. These were amazing to use outside. Then they came out with Thumps for heavy bass and it went to crap for some time. These new series seem to want to capture the original idea. I haven’t heard them yet, but to this day, no speaker has impressed me like the SRM450 v1 and v2.
