Never knew they had a ferry operating during icy conditions.

They do! They change to the winter ferry in the off season and it runs as long as there isn't too much ice in the harbor. As long as they can get dock to dock they run but when the ice is blocking the docks, most people fly with the air taxi from St. Ignace to Mackinac Island.

The flight video was peaceful and calm...but this was a little scary!!! Yikes! I felt like I was on The Titanic!! Great video!

Right!? They really just break right through it! The trip took over an hour compared to the 40 minutes it takes in the winter when the water is open. Glad to have the experience of both the winter boat and flying to the Island. Hard to explain to people so wanted to capture it and share!

Pretty sure this is how they broke the rudder shaft on this boat yesterday.

I believe ice got jammed a piece on the boat. The Mighty Huron takes a beating in the winter!
