Been using Calendar Alerts for years, but after upgrading to Sonoma (boooooo!), it no longer opens most of my alerts and I can't figure why. Almost missed paying some bills. Came here to make sure I'm still setting the notifications correctly. Seems I am. Thanks. One of the best features is color coding the alerts on the calendar. You can quickly see at a glance each different action you want done.

I bought a copy of BusyCal a while back because Apple's calendar didn't have those custom alerts. Looks like they've really improved it!

Maybe you could help me out: I’m looking for a way to export specific calendar appointments to numbers to summarise the durations for my fee notes. Is there a simple way or an automation? Gary, another educating video for me. The "newbie" after 2+ years with this Mac. So glad you showed how to create an alert and multiple alerts and an alert via email(which applies to me because I am constantly checking email). Is there a trick to drag an email to the calendar and that action creates a new event?

No, I think you'd need to create the event first, then add the email. But if the mail has a date in the body of the text, hover your cursor over that date in the text and you should be able to click on it and add a calendar event.

Hello Gary thanks for this clear lesson. I have a holiday house which I rent out to many people. What I actually need is the possibility to add a calendar item to a date in a numbers spreadsheet. For instance when a payment is due. In this way I don’t need to look into my spreadsheet to see if payment are due. Is that possible?

I always look art each email as soon as I can, take an action (reply, do something, etc) and then archive it. Done. My inbox is usually empty but I can find any old email in Archive/All Mail if I want. I never delete email, no need.

Something I have never been able to figure out is why you can set an Apple Calendar alert for 2 days before the event, but when you get the reminder two days before, you can only set the reminder in the notification to remind you max in another hour? Am I missing something? What if I want to set the reminder for another day? two hours? I can't.

I use this all the time on my Mac I just wish the iOS version of Calendar was as customizable.

No, there's nothing like that in Calendar. That's why I'm suggesting this technique.

@@stavros808 You can do it from Mac to Mac, but I don't know if there is a way for a Mac to wirelessly see a Windows optical drive. Just get a USB optical drive. I see them for less than $20.

Gary, I realize my comment is over 1 year late, but non the less. Can you comment on calendar alerts being synched via iCloud calendars ? I have noticed that not all alerts are synched and certainly there seems to be more alert options on iMAC vs. iPhone (I didn't try iPad yet). Latest IOS vs Big Sur ....

For basics it should be the same. Obviously if you do something that uses Automator or opening a file, that's Mac-specific.

@@macmost Gary we are not communicating. I'm not talking about anything special. I can't figure out on iOS how to sent an email notification for example. Doesn't matter. I realize Automator is iMAC instance specific.

@@pedropuckerstein4670 You can't. On iOS, you can set a notification alert for a Calendar even. That's it. You can't send an email or do any of the special thing you do on the Mac for Calendar alerts. There ARE more alert options on a Mac than on iOS. If you set an alert type, like sending an email, that iOS doesn't allow, then when you look at the alert on the iPhone you won't see that alert there.

Sounds like you have automatic alerts set in Calendar, Preferences, Alerts. So when you create a new even, you automatically get one. Set those up as you like or as "None."

Add their birthday to your contacts, then enable the Birthdays calendar in the Calendar app in Calendar, Preferences, General and also the left sidebar of the Calendar. Then in Calendar, Preferences. Alerts enable the Birthday alerts.

Spam and phishing emails are out of control. Apple with AI should be able to do a better job of screening these and blocking them. The phone companies finally are doing a better job of blocking scam phone calls but they were forced by legislation. Maybe there needs to be legislation so email providers block these phony sam email addresses from sending phishing emails.

Why did Apple need to change the snooze function!!!!!!!????? I used that all the time. I could hit snooze and set it to just about any time I wanted, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, etc. Now I can only snooze one duration, approximately 8 minutes. I sometimes wonder why Apple changes things, just to change, because they can? Apple, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
