Crystal clear, Gary! I have been an owner / user of Mac products since 1986, I have never, ever installed any antivirus and did not suffer any consequences for it.

#1 best way to prevent viruses is to become computer literate. Use your computer more often and learn what things are dangerous and what aren't.

Email malware to all they gotta do is send you a email you don’t even have to open it. Also it’s extremely easy to access cookies so don’t be excepting cookies
@macmost Жыл бұрын
There's no way to get malware from email without being tricked into installing something or opening a file and granting permission.

Sophos antivirus is a great example of a free Mac antivirus that doesn't get in your way and offers excellent protection for you and anyone who puts any data through your device. If you end up with a stager on your Mac ready to download customised malware MacOS will do nothing about it but Sophos will. You absolutely can get into trouble on Mac devices and you should not neglect running a good antivirus if you have to work with people who have bad internet habits.

Where is the best place to find current tech news?
@macmost3 жыл бұрын
Depends on what kind of tech news you want. For just Apple stuff, MacRumors or AppleInsider are good sites.

I just got my first Apple product two months ago. I've been a Windows user since about 1953 (so it seems). I got the M1 Air! So I'm very new. Is there a single command or method that will cause all apps plus the operating system to update? IOW, I don't want to skip updating anything. Thanks. I watch all your videos.
@DeeDeeCHAUNCEY3 жыл бұрын
Go to preferences in individual apps. Choose automatic updates. I don’t think there is a way to select that systemwide for all of your apps. There are those who prefer to update apps manually as well.

Is it dangerous to still be using older versions of MacOS? I’m running older versions on some older hardware.
@macmost3 жыл бұрын
All you can do is to run the latest version of the software that is supported by your hardware. If you are running older versions of macOS, just be extra vigilant with only installing things from sites you absolutely trust. And have a good backup at all times.

i have noticed that my mac was insanely loud for a few minutes recently. I then restarted it and now its normal again. The weird thing is i wasnt downloading or updating anything at the time, does someone have an idea what it could have been?

I have downloaded a file from a site . Then in download area there was written malware for a short time. I use mac and my question is do i have malware on my macbook ?
@macmost Жыл бұрын
Hard to comment without knowing exactly what was "written" and where. I don't think macOS would do anything like that. Maybe you have a third-party app installed that is doing that?

Is disk drill a good app to remove some Malware . Or disc utility etc. I love your videos thanks for all the time and work you put into them . I can’t seem to Get ride of something called pipidae

Have never used it so I can't say. Here is a post about removing that that may help: discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250007882 Otherwise, you may want to seek out pro help (Genius Bar, local shop or expert) if you are unsure what to do.

16-inch MacBook are expensive no question. Are they worth it ? Absolutely.. If for no other reason than anti hacker Apple keeps changing the Operating System along with frequent tweak downloads the are automatically loaded into your Mac if you set up your System Preferences to do that.

I really like these shorts. Hoping you do more of these in the future. Question: for some reason I have flash player icon on my desktop and it reads 24.2 MB. I'm sure I put it there somehow but should I put in trash or do I need to download this? When I click on that a new window opens with the Flashplayer logo and reads, "install adobe flash player.app Thanks a lot
