Maybe the length allows for choosing a larger planter size and the length of space it will hang from the top. Adjust to your preference.

This was a great tutorial, thank you! I will have to join the chorus of people saying the string length is WAY too long, though! I repeated the top pattern an extra time, and STILL each string could have comfortably been a metre shorter. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather that than them being too short, but I feel like I wasted an awful lot of cord. Still produced a beautiful hanger, though!

Really great, thank you! Next time I would only use 110 inches of string for each piece; I had a lot left over (like others mentioned). The diagonal knot took me some getting used to, but can’t wait to use it more.

Excellent teacher - excellent project. I wish I had seen your videos when I first learned to macrame. The only question I have is "Why do we have so much waste at the end?" I have 3 feet to cut off, even with a generous fringe at the bottom.
@RachelColton
@RachelColton 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The extra string could be a result of variations in the thickness of different brands of strings or a difference in the length between the bottom of the triangle and the diamond at the front. It’s always tricky to estimate how much you will need for any given project but if you make more than one you can always adjust the length. There are also some great projects to make with smaller pieces such as earrings or keychains or tassels!

You could do any plant. Low light plants would probably work best unless you can get it close to a window. Something with hanging vines would look good or even a succulent.

Hi dear, can I have an opinion? First I want to thank you for taking the time to teach us your work. But for those who didn't know anything like me about macrame, it's tiring to watch every move you make and to listen takes time to learn. It would be much more interesting for you to show us how it is done just by showing the points, slowly and without talking so much because for any layperson to see how it is done, that is enough. Other people here on youtube do this and that's how I learned. And I'm still learning. Unfortunately others show very fast, but I think it is for those who are not beginners. The look also makes us learn without needing too much blah blah blah. lol Don't be upset because it's just my opinion ok? Your works are very beautiful and if you continue to teach us it will be very good A hug

Thank you for the very detailed tutorial 🙏🏾. I’m a beginner and very confused. You mentioned on the second row of square nots to alternate leaving two strings out at each end. However, I’m not sure whether I’m supposed to include those two strings on the left side as I’m going right to left. I’ve started over 5 times to get this diamond shape 😩🙏🏾
@RachelColton
@RachelColton 4 жыл бұрын
Ugh! I’m sorry you are having trouble. Are you referring to the inverted triangle shape at the top of the design? Leave out two strings on both sides in the second row to form alternating square knots. In the next row, leave out four strings on both sides and so on until you have a triangle. Does that make sense?

Done. The problem is: if im using a small pot, the ropes are too long and its unstable. If using a large pot, it holds it perfectly, but is pushed away from the wall. But lovely craft. Loved it. :) (is there any way to make it more complex so the pot cant slip through easily between two threads?)
@RachelColton
@RachelColton 4 жыл бұрын
You could create more of a traditional netting at the bottom like the one I use in my other plant hanger video. You create a net using square knots. That will hold the pot more securely.

Hi Rachel, I've just started making this, and I'm trying to do the math. I want to make it slightly wider to accommodate my pot width. How many extra pieces would I need to add to keep the shape and pattern, just wider? I did the math that I could and determined I would need two extra on each side, I think, so a total of 20 strings. Does that sound correct? Would I need to add four extra pieces for every added bit of thickness to keep the pattern even?
@RachelColton
@RachelColton 3 жыл бұрын
Yes that sounds right. You need to keep the number of strings even to make the alternating square knot pattern. You could add one extra string to each side or two or more!
@trees_louise
@trees_louise 3 жыл бұрын
@@RachelColton So I added a total of 4 extra pieces, so a total of 20 and it worked out wonderfully! for the bottom part instead of the widest being four knots wide mine was 5, and I couldn't be happier with it. My first ever macrame piece. Thank you so much for the tutorial!

Apologies for the very late reply. The top diameter is about 5 inches. The height is about 4.5 inches. And the bottom diameter is about 3.75 inches. You can accommodate any size pot by adjusting the length of the string that comes around to make the knots in the front and by adjusting where you form the gathering knot at the bottom.
