If it helps set LOVM apart from Avatar and not seem too derivative, the Aramente is not mainly about mastering elements. As a trial for leadership, the Aramente is a mission to gain the approval from the other tribes. They often give trials to test their worth. But it's pretty reasonable why the Fire Ashari didn't think one was necessary this time. The act of travelling, gaining worldly knowlege, becoming a stronger magic user is a way to ensure you come back as a capable leader. Plus it improves diplomatic relationships between the tribes.
@suntiger745 Жыл бұрын
Maintaining and improving the diplomatic relationships is quite important too, because while the Ashari as a people are united in purpose the rifts to the elemental planes that they guard are geographically very spread out across Exandria, so it's not so easy to stay in touch.

Marisha, Keyleth's VA and creator, was really excited when the show was greenlit because the animation studio, Titmouse, had worked previously on the Legend of Korra videogame. And this episode especially was something she wanted to be seen as an homage to the Avatar series and the influence it had on her.

If you can find the original clip of Grog talking to the sword while using the bathroom, I highly recommend watching it. Travis has so many hilarious Grog moments, but that one is top tier.

One thing I don't like about the show is how they removed so many Grog and Scanlan bro moments. Like offering to play some music while pooping, and then going out for a bite to eat.

All Druids can transform through an ability called “Wild Shape,” but most are limited in the types of creatures they can turn into. The forms are mainly for utility and scouting, rather than combat. Keyleth’s specific subclass of Druid (Circle of the Moon) specializes in Wild Shape, and can access increasingly more powerful forms, eventually reaching what you saw in this episode: Elemental Forms (fire, water, air, earth). And a favor owed to Scanlan? What could go wrong?
@riolkin Жыл бұрын
I really hope it ends up being the same favor as the campaign. It was a great long con, and a great example of chaotic good.

More specifically, her 10th level Druid subclass ability from her Circle of the Moon where she can use her wild shape to go elemental form instead of just beast. Loved the way the show incorporated the leveling up and storyline aspect of it to the actual d&d mechanics!

@@ticozayas6430 by level 10 a Druid has 4 wild shapes, so there is no both uses anymore at that level. Also I'm trying not to get into the weeds of mechanical details. Just wanted them both to understand that it not only fit narratively but they did a great job of balancing it to the core rules. In the show it may seem overpowered but that's just a level 10 Druid for you. As someone who has seen 2500+ hours of Critical Role and been playing/DMing for years, I'm just happy to see new mediums for fans to find them and the world of D&D. For me, it's the best part of the game is introducing it to new players. 🙂

I remember during the first campaign Keyleth's self confidence was an issue because Marisha's self-confidence was an issue. She was playing a druid which is one of the more difficult classes and she wasn't very familiar with the mechanics or spells maybe in part because the cast had switched from Pathfinder at home to 5e for the stream. That earned her a lot of criticism from fans who were brutal to her in the comments during the live streams. There were a lot of sexist remarks aimed at her, not only questioning her intellect but her right to even be at the table, saying she was only there because of her boyfriend (at the time she was dating Matt Mercer. They eventually married). Honestly the remarks got so ugly and foul that I stopped paying any attention to the chat during the live streams because I'd seen enough. It's true that Critters can be very welcoming and supportive of new fans and viewers, but they can also be toxic gatekeepers. It's nice that the ones who are watching you all watch the show have been the former kind.

There's definitely a sort of Star Wars prequels thing going on with Critical Role fans. We all see how many people love and adore the cast now, but I was there back when they still ate food while streaming. I've seen the things they had to deal with from fans, and especially the women of Critical Role. To say it was ugly would be a horrible understatement.

I remember all that bullshit they heaped on Marisha to. it always pissed me off both as a D&D player and as a person. i mean what do all these dope's expect? that she's gonna have eldritch knowledge of all the rules and lore? hell Sam was a newbie as well. but i think it was when Keyleth took on Rashain that the haters learned how fucking awesome both Kiki and our girl form Kentucky could be.
@annabanana7659 Жыл бұрын
For real, the commenters were so foul because at first, it was because they didn't like Keyleth being lawful/good in a band of pure chaos but then it turned into personal shit. As a fan of CR and funnily enough Star Wars; fan can get rabid by their dislike to a *fictional character* and transfer it to the VAs as well as actors/actresses themselves. Shameful.

In the live game, Keyleth's confidence issues come from having accidentally causing the death of a child before they started streaming. It also caused her to become somewhat of the group's moral compass, always trying to reel back Vox Machina whenever they go a step too far (Like torture or killing unconscious or fleeing enemies)
@TenebrousFilms Жыл бұрын
The conversation with Craven Edge happened exactly like this, except it took place in a crampt outhouse in Whitestone. The broom's magic word was originally in draconic, and sounded like hocking up phlem. VM had been to Pyrah once before already, and they all went into the fire plane with Keyleth to help her with her trial. At one point, as they crossed the burning sands, they saw a massive red dragon flying high overhead.... anyway, entering the plane and learning the form of the element is part of each trial; though I doubt ordinary fire elementals look quite like that! Scanlan's favour was a long con in the stream, but I expect it will be truncated like everything else in the show.

1:57 "maybe we can do some detective work?" - yeah, we will, but it will be an investigation of a different matter i.e. who let a red dragon out :D I remember your reaction to Allura`s words in the first season, and honestly I was shocked how accurately you predicted this plotline with Thordak then, knowing *nothing* of their mutual history, nothing about the Chroma Conclave, or about this red dragon _actually_ being important to the plot. Wow. I haven`t seen such a good viewers/reactors like you. Yesss, Anna Ripley has some information and is very much willing to share. This is going to be so good (I`m saying this both literally and ironically). Grog`s storyline will be also, I think you`ll like it! :3333 It`s amazing.

A very minor detail that I think adds a lot of perspective of the differences of the tabletop vs the show, is that the players never put it together that Ripley was involved with the Chroma Conclave during this time. Mercer didn't reveal that she was in Westruun until a post campaign wrap-up episode. The clues were there and maybe some viewers had theories but they never found out.
@hhylobates4098 Жыл бұрын
?? Didnt they just make up that alliance for the show? Theres nothing on her wiki about Westruun, and I cant see anything in the Wrap Up transcript about her in that location either. She was a customer of VIctor in Vasselheim, was in Kymal where she picked up Kynan, after that off to Marquet. She had nothing to do with the dragons.

Mechanically that elemental transformation is only available to moon druids of which Keyleth is... every druid gets 2 beast shapes that lets them turn into animals, when a moon druid reaches 10th level, they can sacrifice both beast shapes to turn into an elemental of air, fire, water, or earth... But for the TV series I think the other forms will be tied to her other aramente trails.
