That 105 MC is probably my favorite prime, love it! There's something so immersive about macro photography, I always feel like I'm diving into a different world in the viewfinder. Pure escapism. Thanks Morten!

I love macro! When I cannot find animals to photograph, it’s something I can always fall back on. That 105 is the best macro lens that I have used.

I agree, macro is far more relaxing and mindful, I could spend just a while going round the woods/ my garden taking really nice photos, or I could go out all day looking for birds and get one dodgy photo of a far out buzzard. Happy snapping 🙂

Macro is my fav and I just got into the Z with 6ii and love it. I don't have a macro lens yet and I am happy I happened across your video! I have watched 2 on this lens and I think I am sold. Thank you. also thank you for explaining the function buttons. I was watching you use the camera and now I know I have much much more to learn about these cameras. Love the video and your photography is beautiful.

I've enjoyed using the 105mm lens. I used it for macro work to start with but then started using it for portrait work, too. I've had a good bit of success using my 80-400mm lens for macro work, too. Insects, flowers, etc. I don't have to get so close and the 45 mpx sensor lets me crop without losing image quality. Works fine for some types of insects that are more sensitive to my movement. I did like the way you can use those buttons to move your point of focus for composition. I'm still using the D850 so I just center those small subjects and then crop for composition. Anyway, it was good to see you in a comfortable climate and not freezing your @$$ off in the blowing snow, Morten. Hope to see more of this in the coming summer.

It is nice to see his videos are excellent documentaries what he exposes of the places he visits, his respect he has about nature and the animal world. His humble way of expression, the simple way he teaches, speaks of a great experience in his field. The Nikon commercials are with element of style and it is forceful because we see how you use the camera. Take care. All the Best. Greetings from Mexico.

I'd love to try the 105mm macro : ) And a little tip from a macro enthusiast: Going for the insect is easier if you set the focus very close and then move the camera instead of twisting the focus ring 👍🏻

I think this tip especially useful for all max magnification work.

And then it is even easier with the camera on a tripod with a focusing rail that allows you to slide the camera forth and back in a subtle way

Another wonderful video... The Z8 advantage for this kind of photography... Very nice tip from you, that probably I didn't realize as I shoot with the Z9 myself... That is the lack of grip comes in handy in this situation...

Hi Morten, I got the 105 mm lens some weeks ago . Thank you for your advice how to set it/the camera. Still learning and playing around getting to know it, but I'm really happy with it, Results are much better compared to my old macro lens, I always felt uncomfortable with. Already got some nice flowers and insects exactly the way I intended it. Even aphids and plant bugs have interesting structures and colours. Most of my pictures becoming part of my archive are used for lectures in ecology. At the moment I just set up a feeding place for butterflies and found a place with grashoppers in different stages of their developement. They are sooo quick and dive into deep vegetation. As you mentioned, one advantage of the Z-Series is the low weight, especially in such situations, not to forget using the screen instead of the viewfinder to minimize the shade of a head and escaping "prey".

This is where a monopod comes in handy. It will obviously only help on the horisontal axis but the freedom of movement is valueable also if you use the rocking back and forth technique for focus or bursts for stacking.

Great as always! :) Unfortunately, my Nikon 200-500 lens is now broken and it is in Nikon service, but I hope it will be ready soon.

Do consider next time testing out the Focus Shift function, where you can then stack multiple images - you may still be artistic with everything, but the flower (or any other) subject will be real sharp. When I read the video title I expected some comments on this. Anyway, I also use the 105mm and love it for macro - thanks for the nice video.

Very interesting presentation. I do a lot of macro on flowers. The zoom function on the f1 button looks very useful. However, I can't find it anywhere on my Z8. I assume it is somewhere in the Custom controls. Could you please explain in more detail what you do to set this function?

The advantage of us, as a tripod as you can do. Focus stocking. I take anywhere from 10 to 20 photographs of a flower and then focus stack them in Adobe Photoshop.

Hello, I have a question for you: do you think that for me, as an amateur, the combination of the Nikon z6 and the Nikkor MC 105mm 2.8 S lens is sufficient for macro photography, and would changing the body to the Nikon z7 change a lot, best regards,Paweł
