I'm 45 years old, born and raised in Queens NYC.. I remember being in 7th grade hearing about the ghost shadows. The aura that surrounded them was almost supernatural. It was understood that those Asian gangs were on a different level. Shout out to China Mac and the official content.. this a dope interview, and you can tell homie right here is a thorough cat..

@@franciscozubillaga8154 Cuz they still active lmao, they are just operating differently, Chinese organized crime is much more sophisticated than any other gang, their level is similar to intelligence agencies. The last bit of his story should give you a clue on this. the NYPD hired a ex Chinese gangster to help combat this type of organized crime. The reason is due to the population difference for culture and superficial delusions don't exist like race, advancements in thinking and behavior will occur because everyone judge's each other's on actions rather than appearances. Western society cares too much about appearances, consequence of a system that cares too much about status because of nepotism. Nepotism occurs in their culture as well, but doesn't last long due to so much competition. Over here, our nepotism takes a long time before it resolves itself, because those with power can delay the process.

NYC organized crime is a major part of our culture and history here in NY. The fact that many former gang members/ mobsters are documenting this part out our city’s history is amazing whether it be the Italians,Chinese,Dominicans, Puerto Ricans etc…. As a NYer who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s I’m absolutely hooked on many of these channels.

His story is similar to mine , but the differences is that my dad was associated with gang on his early life then later he went into construction businesses for us , for family , so that we all can enjoy peaceful life. Born in Malaysia , as a typical Chinese/Thai boy , i were always treated as outcast in schools and neighborhood , peoples always make fun of me for what i am , and they would try to bully me and my lil brother , but my dad always told me to never back down from fight , and never bully others or my lil brother, he taught me what's right and wrong. My household was..... just like any typical gang-related family , always had bunch of tattoed uncles hanging out at my house , fancy cars with dark tinted, and my mom would serve them drinks and foods for the day. My dad went outside of country for constructions work when i turned 8 , and for many years , he would call us and send money home every now and then to make sure everything is ok. There's one time i had a problem at school when i was 15 , the boy extorted me in school and they said they would beat the shit outta me if i don't pay... but i ignored them , and later they followed me home , they shouted at the gate, my mom was at the kitchen at the time , my brother greeted them and called me , said some peoples outside calling for me , I came out and talked to them , immediately got dragged into car and left... last thing i told my brother was , call dad and uncles. So later they took me to a bar , got beaten up pretty bad , said i being disrespectful to them and their gang for the reason... turned out like i was a initiative breakthru for the new kids to join a gang. They told me to make a call to bring them the money , but later my step-uncles came , they sit down for a discussions , and they took me home. the next day, my dad arrives early in the morning , he walks into my room and check on me , i was already awake but I still lying on bed. My dad brought me to lunch at restaurant , and 2 of my step-uncles joined us later... they make fun of me for how I lost the fight cause i never lost any fight during my childhood , and later dad told me they would ambush the kid and their members who bullied me after we done with lunch , and i asked how , they kept silent and smile, said you'll know soon. Then , we left the restaurant and went to a house , theres full of different cars , and we took 2 suv and drove to the bar that i was took into on the other night , it was 3pm.... 4 of us, 2 SUV, 2 persons in each , they parked their car facing the bar , while my dad parked 10 metres away from the scene, watching... and last thing my dad told me before the actions is... boy , never let anyone walks over your head and disrespect you.... and the next thing I saw, my step-uncle slam his car into the bar repeatedly until the car break down , and they walks out from their car , get into our car and we left.

Thank you for doing this interview to give us a glimpse of what life is like for ex-gang members. Kenny is right in that he realized that he couldn't do what he was doing forever especially when he gets out of jail. I'm glad he turned his life around. Priorities change over time and as much as there was bonding and a sense of belonging in gangs, it's not sustainable if you constantly get arrested and be put in jail. I appreciate hearing these stories and Kenny is a great story teller.

As a kid, it just seemed like the most busy place anywhere but all everyone was doing was either buying food or eating at restaurants. I can't imagine losing your father suddenly at 10 yrs old without knowing the reason why.

She ended up having a kid with him and divorced later on. That's the closest I've ever heard about gangs. It's just this underworld that privilege people like me never saw. I hope the gang members found peace in life and no longer associate with gang life. Thanks for sharing your story.

Great story. I didn't know the Chinese from different regions had a beef between each other. When I was young I worked at an arcade and made friends with groups of all races. I was half Asian. One time I was walking around and a van pulled up and it was a Filipino gang that knew me, they said hop in and they have me a ride. Along the way they would stop and jump out the van and beat people up. I just sat in the van and watched. Eventually they dropped me off. I later learned they beat up my brother's white friend and pushing brother down. I told my brother I know those guys 😃
