Oh my goodness, I know you did this video 4 years ago but you can’t imagine how comforting it was to hear you speak and prepare me for the number of days I needed to spend in the torture chair. I made it to the other side and I am recovering now with my gas bubble preventing me from seeing for the next 2-4 weeks. But I am optimistic and truly appreciate your video which helped me tremendously ❤️

Good heavens, I realize this was years ago but I am hoping that this is not what I will have to go through. I just learned of the hole and won't see the specialist until next week but my goodness I'm hoping procedures have gotten more advanced. You are great to share this with us.

I am going for my macular hole surgery in two days. So how is your vision and how are the issues that have developed in three years since your surgery, please advise any thing else that you like to share on your road to recovery, Thanks.

I am preparing for my second macular hole surgery in the other eye. First time before surgery I was told to walk around the house with a napkin under my chin and look down. If there is something I think I will want put that item on a coffee table or chair or floor where I can see it. This includes small appliances you might use for heating food. In the frig...put items on the bottom shelf or place them up front in the freezer door for easy access. Put two tennis balls in a sock and sew it to the back of your sleep garment so you don't roll over on your back. You will not sleep thru the night, naps are great. Nose-to-the-toes is what my doc said. Only 10 min of each hour can be head up for eye drops. Use a cane that you can rest your forehead on while walking about so you don't raise your head. I did the whole process living alone. For women chest pain can be the hardest part. Roll a towel and place it between your breast or a long narrow pillow for when you are resting your chest against the positioning supports.

Thank you for this, it was really reassuring. I've been told this morning that I need to have this surgery within the next two months, and they'll remove a cataract in the same eye too while they're at it. It's a lot to take in! Hope two years on that your vision has improved and you're pain-free. ❤️

You are so adorable! and this is the most helpful video I have watched, I can’t thank you enough! I am almost 80 years young, and will be having Macular Hole surgery soon so I have written down all your tips. I am making small casseroles for the freezer so I can tell my hubby how to heat them as he is hopeless in the kitchen, told him toast & peanut butter or crackers and cheese will do for lunch, as he is so worried about looking after me! How did you sleep - did you take that pillow table to your bed? I am in Canada, I have to rent a special chair for about $400. I am sure I heard my Dr. say 5 days but I sure hope so.🤗❤

I might be facing that surgery soon as my partial macular hole is causing a bump underneath it. I am terrified because I have no vision already in my left eye due to either retinitis pigmentosa or uveitis. I only have one eye and if that goes I will be blind. I’m 67 and live alone. I’m terrified !!!😢

I’m due to have a vitrectomy on Tuesday 31st March in the middle of the Coronavirus lockdown! No friends or family visiting, my husband will be taking everything on! Your video has been very useful. Luckily I got hold of a vitrectomy chair before lockdown, but I’m obviously limited as to getting much else together, but I’ll spend the weekend preparing as much as I can! Like you I play golf and exercise (though not since my eye problem occurred) and look forward to the summer when I hope normal life will resume! Thanks for posting.

I'm going to have the surgery in a week. It's going to be hard during the pandemic. No visitors. I'm afraid to visit people before the surgery also.

I have to have it done too real soon, but I guess I am going to have to get in good shape to get my blood pressure way down and off the coffee,I do not want to much pressure build up in my eyes.I saw a face down pillow on the net ,which I will have to buy.I never thought I could get something like this so fast.

Thanks Jane,May 10 for mine .How was it keeping your head down and sleeping head down for 7 days.I know it has been 3 weeks ago,how is your eyesight now.I just noticed your post,I did not see it in notifications.I too am worried but you have put me in a better mood.Like I said I never knew anything about this,I read this happens mostly to women though, well what can you do,at least we can see,so that is a blessing

Julian Leone in bed I used a neck pillow like you might get for a long airplane flight .I could lay on my side then put head facing down in pillow . It worked best with laying on my side of operated eye.The first few nights I would sleep in short naps but it got better .I go back again this week to eye dr. It's still a little off but I do notice a little everyday it seems better .it took over a week for the gas bubble to go but at least there was no pain .I have motion sickness and the gave me a scopolamine patch before surgery plus some other meds .anesthesia makes me sick . It all worked well and helped with car ride home cause your head has to be down .the patch stayed on for 72 hrs.i hope this helps good luck !

Thanks Jane,I am a stomach sleeper,I have a square piece of very firm foam 8 inches by about 3 foot that I will lay on for sleeping and my chin will be at the edge and I will use pillows to support my head so I can breathe between the foam and pillows.I tried it it seems ok,I dont want my back sore or a stiff neck.I saw those neck pillows ,I thought they were not firm enough. Thanks again Jane, what can you do right, but we learned something that we never knew about.
