Macy's looking to sell San Francisco Union Square property

After Macy’s announced Tuesday it will close 150 stores nationwide, San Francisco Mayor London Breed said the company is looking to sell its Union Square property. Damian Trujillo reports.

As a man who hates shopping crowds and shopping in general, I loved that during the holidays during the late 90's and early 2000's Macy's would stay open 24 hours. I completed all my holiday shopping between 12:00 - 5:00 AM in 1 trip usually. There would be hardly anyone with the exception of employees who were restocking and would check you out when ready. This could never happen today.

Can you believe that the failed leadership in SF and California have consequences. if you cannot keep an area safe and let them thugs take over with no repercussion for their actions this is what happens. Mayor London Breed will scream foul for any problem that she perceives to be "not her fault" Macy's took a business decision because their SF store is underperforming, but maybe this Mayor should have a thought of why this flagship is failing, why are not people going to downtown SF and shopping? Opportunity she says, it's like a Shakespeare play where the fools have taken over the asylum.

The commercial real estate market is in the dumps right now. Westfield Centre in downtown San Francisco is an example of what is happening. A lot of stores on Market street are closed. Hotels in the city, and Westfield Centre were foreclosed on. Finding a buyer will take some time.

Meanwhile, the Macy’s at Westfield’s Valley Fair and the rest of the retailers at Valley Fair are doing just fine. Downtown SF was a prime shopping destination, like Chicago and NY, now it's on the way to be a city like Cincinnati or Houston, you have to go shopping to the suburbs and downtown is just full with office buildings, empty office buildings with drug addicts.
