This video shows the gathering in Clunes. Then from a bike perspective as Mad Max replicas carrying some cast and crew travel from Clunes to the Paramount Cinema in Maryborough for Yuriy Chernyak's documentary about the the 40th anniversary Mad Max event. Then from bike perspective travel to Maryborough Harness Racing Track. The big screen is a harsh test of image and sound and Yuiry achieved a remarkable result.

I got to see the original in the theater in '79 because it was "disfumctional dad's weekend" and my ol' man surprised us with this. Had no idea what the movie was, who was in it..shit, I couldn't tell ya anything. I was a 12 year old kid. Well, after the lights came back up, I went from being 12 to 24 in under two hours. My dad was expecting to be a little more..'shocked', I suppose because it was R rated and that was allot tighter of an R back then. Kids watch R rated stuff on Disney now, for shit's sake! All I knew was that I had just seen the future of filming and THE baddest ass car I'd ever seen. Funny thing about those Monzas. My dad got a '76 for the bicentennial and it was red, white and blue, of course, and it was the EXACT same front end as black on black's is. A little bit later of a year but that same Monza. As you might expect, his Mirage (as they were known) was quite different from the Falcon XB. Byron Kennedy was a pure genius adding on that front end! That whole car was purely his idea all the way down to that very detail. He had the car already in his head before he and George Miller ever started filming it. He just dreamed it up and they built it. How cool is that?! He'd be very proud of what has become of this legend today. I recently picked up all 4 movies in a single set for a whopping $10! Best $10 I've spent in a long time! I love to just binge these from start to finish. I wasn't initially too keen on Tom Hardy stepping into Max's role with Mel Gibson still able to do it but, apparently Gibson was already involved in another project at the time. I would have liked to see him complete it. Fury Road is good, don't get me wrong. It's just better as a stand alone post apoc. itself. And, having the Toe Cutter come back as the leader of the "Cult of the V8" was a nice added surprise. I always dig him in the original. He fit the part perfectly and brought a real sense of insanity to the role that's unmatched even today! Yeah, we had Falcons here in the states too but they looked more like a Rambler or something..Not badass like the Aussie versions that go toe to toe against Mustangs over there. And, they only used them because they got them dirt cheap and perfect for crashing up. Sounds pretty sad, doesn't it, especially when you think of all those times Ms. Black on Black was rolled, maimed, smashed to pieces and then sent to firey death..what? 6 times? I felt worse for that car than I did for the people. The car, like that other famous Falcon, is a character unto itself. It has become a 'living icon' in the car world and is one the top 5 most popular cars ever conceived. I remember AMX tried jumping on the Max Wagon by releasing a special edition AMC Spirit. A nice car really but Black was never an AMC car. It's a hybrid of Ford and Chevy. That Monza was Chevy's 'trial replacement' for the Vega, which kept selling anyway so, what's the difference? One thing about the AMX though. It LOOKED like the real deal - all except for the lack of the blower. If you wanted that, you had to cut that hood yourself and very few people would do that to something that new unless you were going all the way and installing that Holland on top. The car is just plain gorgeous and it never gets old. The flat against the gloss black adds that perfect touch, especially on the flat black rims. It keeps the wheels from drawing your attention away from those bad ass side pipes that I'd love to take down to the emissions office and blast through with? If only I could hit that lottery. Tell ya what..I'll set up a 'go fund me' and the rest of you can chip in your 2¢ and watch me work! I gotta get me one of those sometime before I get put in the ground! A masterpiece and a beautiful piece of art!

As a 12 year old MM would have been a visual extravaganza. The R rating still applies I believe, a bit of a joke considering the behaviour of elite who rule us but decide what is good or bad. I have to confess my knowledge of the cars is poor - XB falcons. My main interest is Australian cinema, I was a cinema projectionist. The original MM is very different, for example, by the time the movie ends it seems everybody loses something - a complete break from Hollywood. Considering the budget it was still shot using the anamorphic process and it seems to me every part of the screen was carefully used. While you were 12 in 1979 I was 22 and the earlier 70s were oil embargo trouble and who was going to go nuts with nuclear weapons first. The prospect of real disaster and dystopian future was clearly in mind when Miller and McCausland developed the script. The movie reflected the times. I was not aware of Byron’s input to the car. You are right, I never consciously thought of the Black Car as being it’s own character, but it had its own presence and performance. Peter Axford is the car’s owner. He is a quiet gentleman, happy to give someone a ride they will never forget. I was never a great fan of Mel Gibson. He went to USA and fame while Steve Bisley told me he did not follow that path, if I understood him correctly. I feel Bisley’s performance in the MM is not appreciated, as it should be. His mix of comic and dramatic made him memorable. There is much that is memorable to all characters due to the script and allowed improvising. I have always been a fan of Hugh Keays-Byrne since a TV series called Rush in the 1970s showed what he could do. He appeared in the last episode, made a big impression on me. Won an award for that so I was not the only one impressed. He had quite a few non lead roles in film and television and each time I though “how come this bloke is not a movie star?” Turns out he was a quiet man, a private person with a strong code of ethics. Seems to me he would have had greater success but did not sell out his values. Anyway, I’ve always been a fan hence when the replica bike came up for sale it was hard to resist.
