On the bench today is a pair of Hot Wheels 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Villes. I need two of them, at least, to go to work on this project. It’s the Gigahorse from the Mad Max Fury Road film. Other donor cars and parts will be used as well.
Thanks to Jay from JDC and also to Rikki Williams, an Instagram friend, for supplying me with the Coupe de Ville castings that I couldn’t find in Switzerland!
The Gigahorse is also my entry to the JDC Double Trouble build, to celebrate Jason and Amanda’s twin girls, arriving this Spring! Congratulations you two. You are both loved and admired in our hobby community and we rejoice with you!

The Gigahorse is a custom vehicle driven in the film by Immortan Joe. The vehicle is built on a custom chassis, with a body made of two 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Villes sitting on top of each other.
The film's original design called for a turret installed on top of a single Coupe de Ville but, as the production designer Colin Gibson explains, “In a world where nobody had one of anything, to show he’s got power, he’s the man who’s got two of everything,” and so the design was changed.
Peter Pound - concept artist explains the reasoning for having Coupe De Villes as the body of The Gigahorse: “It’s the king’s vehicle so it had to be quite spectacular. That’s why the ’59 Cadillac which I always thought represented authority and status.”
The real fGigahorse is approximately 4 meters high without the flags and weighs in at 10.5 tonnes. It also appears to have bulletproof glass in the movie.
The Gigahorse is powered by two Chevrolet 502 hp big block V8 crate motors and functioning 8/71 superchargers. Both engines are connected through a custom gearbox and originally connected to a Turbo 400 automatic transmission. This transmission had to be rebuilt after each day of filming by the film's main mechanic. Because of this inconvenience, the Turbo 400 was eventually replaced with a fully functional Allison automatic truck transmission, generating approximately 1,200 hp. Originally, the two engines were supposed to be dummy motors made of fiberglass with a single real engine hidden inside, but additional funds were provided, which allowed the Gigahorse to be equipped with an actual working engine setup.
The vehicle sports double 70” tractor tires on the rear. The rims and hubs were custom made. They gave a 16:1 drive ratio for a 95 kph top speed, but according to Gibson the Gigahorse managed speeds up to 125 kph while filming.

Andrew... let me tell you. We just watched this at 3am after Amanda got out of bed wanting macaroni and cheese. She's crying after seeing the finishing touches you put on it and the drivers names... thank you for dedicating this build to our little girls and participating in the Double Trouble buildoff. This has been a long time in the making. Those cars have traveled the world literally. To see you do the research and get the measurements as close to accurate as you can and then watch this build come together the way that it did. Its perfectly amazing my friend. I absolutely love the thought you put into getting the rake out of the lift kit and the dual motor setup and especially the cuts you made to join these cars together. I don't see one thing I would change. This is a masterpiece. Thank you my friend ❤👊

I knew that this was going to be an exceptional build Andrew, knowing you and the quality of your work...and the caring you would put into such a special project. I waited to watch it until I had a block of time where I could sit back and really savor each moment...and even anticipating all of this ahead of time, I was still blown away. Knowing it would involve some kitbashing and some resin printing, I absolutely loved how much of the build was odds and ends cobbled together and how while there were some 3d printed parts, they made up such a small part of the overall build. But I pressed through, not having bailed on a project yet. I see all the mistakes I made, so I may try another one some day, down the line. For now, it sits on my scorched earth diorama with the War Rig and the others, taking up space on my hobby bench! I hope you'll finish yours. Dust it off. I'd love to see Part 2! Andrew, you have become a master modeller! This was very impressive! Believe it or not. I only saw Fury Road for the first time on Thursday in preparation for your build. I love action movies. I love car movies so I was really surprised that I did not like the movie considering how highly recommended it was. Anyway, thanks for all the treats this week. I enjoyed all three videos you did.

Thanks, RJ. It was a busy week because of those two Thursday deadlines for other people's invitationals. I can't control that but I'm glad I found time to get in on them. Happy you enjoyed my Gigahorse too. Fury Road isn't my favourite film (pretty thin story line), but I enjoyed the work they did on the vehicles. great work, plain and simple. :D all the details make it look very much the real deal. :) something that doesn't become too obvious while watching the movie is how many details they put into every vehicle, because scenes are too busy, or however we are distracted. until one sets out to recreate them... even Max' Falcon XD has at least three versions throughout the movies, and neither model kit (Aoshima if I recall right) nor any other model is really completely accurate.

I'm sure we miss a lot of those details when watching the film. I've enjoyed the 'behind the scenes, making of...' mini documentaries, some of which I referenced in this video. That's where you see all that went into these vehicles, which are the real stars of the movies. 🍁👍👊

This does look incredible sir but if I may the way the real one was done the top Cadillac was left with it's original dimensions where as the bottom one was made wider how ever when it's all don't doesn't matter you still did a phenomenal job and I adore this built

Thanks for the honest feedback. I'm aware of the film car dimensions, but doing it that way was going to cause more problems with the base needing widening as well as the body. In the end, I use the film build as a guide, but I give myself room to freestyle a bit. They're lots of fun to do as occasional specials on the channel. Got another Fury Road vehicle coming in late summer - the Doof Wagon. 🍁👍

I have spotted a few Falcons on eBay that should fit the bill. I might start with the Interceptor and then do the Razor Cola as a Part II. Might have to 3D print the engine for that one. Also looking for a Man Multi 1 for the Fury Road Doof Wagon. That looks like an intimidating build, but that's the fun of the hobby - trying new things and getting better with each build. @@MapleLeafCustomshey Andrew what do you use for stripper I'm trying to figure out what's the best to use considering I'm getting into my own customizing I'm taking a poison pinto and a 65 mustang convertible cutting the mustang convertible off at the doors cutting the whole nose off the pinto including the doors and making a mustang panel I know they have already made it as a matchbox super fast but the super fast are too big for my collection so I'm going to make it myself in hot wheel size I'm also taking a 69 mustang Hot Wheels and a 72 ranchero Hot Wheels and making a mustang ranchero
