It's all in the pauses. The close-ups. The glances. Why do we feel for these characters? It's because this show is not facile. We understand the depth of these characters, as if they were real people we could relate to. One doesn't watch this show ; he experiences it. Redefining drama for good.

What I really enjoyed is the viewer is respected, screens with no words just a look. Outstanding performances and film making. This is the best series I have ever seen.

They way Mad Men works composition is just astonishing. The first time I saw it I was blow away of how many shots could easily be a painting you could have in your house. You can watch this series and learn A LOT of cinematography and "steal" something for your own work.

On the Nature of Daylight is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed. Amazing show, great vid.

Thanks. Pretty sure the last shot of "The Doorway, Part 1" is Don looking at the photographer after he tells him to "be himself" though. And the ending of "The Gold Violin" is Betty puking in Don's new car and him looking at her.

but seriously the cinematography for this shoe is incredible

What is striking is how few of these scenes had a character saying anything. Most of these scenes were expressing deep emotion non-verbally.

I just realized they used the "closing door" cut in first three seasons very often. From season 4 on almost not at all.

Sally going into the doctor's office in S4 ep 5 just breaks my heart. I dont know what it is, but I want to reach through my television and hug her, and tell her (cue Don), its going to be ok. Darling Sally.
