Did every one forget how Spike also was vital in saving the day. Sunset was losing in her energy beam thing against twilight..UNTIL Spike managed to bring Twilight to her senses long enough for Sunset to overpower her because Twilight lost focus in the attack. Spike was able to reach twilight in her chaotic state. And he was able to do this because Spike was Twilight best friend. Sure he is a dog, but that does not change the fact that they were the closest of friends.

My standing head canon with the corrupt transformations of Sunset in the first movie and Twilight in this one is as follows: Magic taken without permission (a la stolen element of harmony or Twilight's magic sucking amulet) makes the magic inharmonious and corrupts the user, making any character flaw or wanton desire exacerbated many fold, as well as suppressing their empathy. Magic Given Freely/used with permission (a la the Humane six, and Sunsets transformation in this movie) makes the magic harmonious and exemplifies their best traits, and their transformations show as such. The elements of harmony, which are present in Equestria through the magic of the Humane six and Sunset, could of also done this to Luna when she turned into Nightmare Moon, since her transformation was rather similar to Twilights and also exacerbated her disharmonious feelings. This could explain how When Sunset used the amulet to gather the magic her transformation was harmonious while Twilights was corrupt, because the Humane six freely gave their magic to sunset while they had their power sucked out forcefully when Twilight unintentionally gathered it, which made it disharmonious. that's my thought anyway.

The magic they are using is the magic of friendship, and only someone who understands friendship can control it. That is why twilight needed to ignite the spark to get the last element of harmony, that is why she needed to learn something about friendship in order to use the elements each time. that is why Sunset was not able to control the magic in the first movie but was able to control it in the third one. It is also why the human twilight was unable to control it in this one. because she did not understand the magic of friendship. This show is about the magic of friendship, not the magic of consent.

it almost felt like Sombra was SUPPOSED to be the villain, given references to words like "legacy" and the general abuse of power and fear mongering. Maybe the higher ups at Hasbro wanted original villains. That could also explain why Indigo Zapp looks like Lightning Dust. I view the alternate end of this film (if Sombra were the villain) being Midnight Sparkle blasting Sombra as he tries to run away, saying something like "and where do you think you're going?" and after the end where they point out how ridiculous his story would sound, he walks away angrily, eyes taking on a familiar glow.

+Gamer Girl Well, yes, but the thing is, they aren't really a major plot point anymore, so while we can wonder where their human counterparts are, it doesn't really matter and probably won't be brought up again. However, since Sunset Shimmer is now one of our main characters, like Twilight, I think we should look for her human counterpart more. Also, it would be funny, like the end of this movie, but only if they don't tear apart the fabric of the universe if they touch. Now that I think about it, that would be an interesting plot point. (I now grin evilly and stroke my nonexistent beard)

I've actually watched this movie for the seventh time in as many days because I just can't get enough of it, but it's also shown me a lot of things which I didn't notice during my initial viewing. The Shadowbolts despite appearing during the title song didn't get to do all that much, so it's a shame they weren't utilized as much as Science Twilight and Principal Cinch. Speaking of Cinch, she is a unique villain in that she was never defeated in that sense despite being the main antagonist, and rather than leave in absolute fury, she saved face, and just walked away. She could have done with better priorities now that I think about it. Sunset Shimmer has come full circle especially when during the final battle, she was able to pass on what she experienced onto an alternate version of the one character who gave her a chance to change for the better. Sunset still has room to grow, and she needs to eventually deal with perhaps the one aspect of her past which she regrets....and that is reconcile with Princess Celestia which means having her return to Equestria. Her new form I feel has her moving that much closer to becoming an alicorn, but not quite there due to needing to grow some more.

Sunset shimmer! The element of forgiveness! I'm not the only one to notice that! Honestly Maddy, I felt like you did when I watched that climax. The design was beautiful in comparison, and sunsets new form was pretty cool too. That entire scene was flawless, in my opinion, and just yeah. It was great.

Definitely thought Sombra during the whole thing, woulda been a whole better evil principle via having H Twi show him the evidence and seeing opportunity to make his school and reputation far superior to any other constantly jaffar like edge twilight on. While also showing how he forces students to be superior, winners, to show no mercy and that winning is everything. Heck, even have him get caught up in the magic orb with twi transforming as well, gaining more evil ambitions and once Sunset brings twi to her side they beat him turning him back to normal, he gets fired and cadence becomes the new principle with Shiny as the dean and they begin to create a more loving and friendly environment..........Just my thought tho. While still keeping the songs too..... Can even through in a funny comment by Celestia saying she can't believe she dated the guy once, or have luna say that she can't believe celestia went out on or dated him once to her. Not that I ship em, just as a ref to the comics

This movie made me really happy, sunset continues to be one of my favorite characters. I have always thought of Sunset as the element of unity, but the idea that she is the element of forgiveness is really cool. And quite frankly I feel like that is a better element of friendship than magic is. Being able to forgive someone and move on is probably the best way I can think of for displaying friendship between people.

I was really hoping for Principal Sombra (seeing as how they were clearly going for a school based on the crystal empire) to be the main jerk, and they just plugged in this Sombra-wannabe instead. I also found it scary when the magic transformed twilight. I blame Cinch and the other students from her school for pressuring her. Twilight never had a single evil bone in her body. It made me feel sad seeing her turn into that thing. It should have been Cinch that was snatched into the glowy thing. She deserved it for being a bi***. lol

One of my favorite things was how they dealt with Cinch. It's rare for a villian to be taken down as non-agressively as she was without instant reformation lasers. No, they just said, "Have fun sounding like a crazy person" and she got the message.

I for one am really happy to hear on how much you love Friendship Games. Sides Rainbow Rocks, I find this to be a amazing movie for MLP, regardless what others say. I find this to be the best one to show off to others. And I do hope another one is in the works cause I love it. But if not, then this would be a perfect way to end EQG and as well comes in full circle.

To me, this movie wasn't as good as Rainbow Rocks. That being said, both Rainbow Rocks and Friendship Games possess a common flaw. The evils of competition and placing so much effort into success at the expense of others. With Rainbow Rocks, the whole school (thanks in part to the sirens' magic) almost fell apart at the seams over a silly singing contest. Here, history is repeating itself; only it's not magic that's causing students to figuratively tear each other to shreds. Here, the fault lies with Principal Cinch and the pettiness of school rivalries. Seriously, what is with humanity always wanting to be the best. People like Maddie aren't set on being the greatest artist in our world. She does what she does because it's fun. If she gets attention for it, it doesn't go to her head like Cinch and her students (mostly the realm Human Twilight's five classmates.) Competition for the sake of glory, power, wealth and superiority over your opponents is an evil path to follow. At least, that's what I think

I believe the reason why Deamon Shimmer and Midnight Sparkle happened because the two of them were using stolen magic which corrupted them. I don't think Sunset had plans to take over the world, but to be considered a ruler, a princess. Twilight wanted to understand magic, and, knowing the source of the magic tried to get it any way she could. Stolen magic takes someones ambitions and twists them around into something malevolent. Its like oil and water, it doesn't mix, or something.

I also love this movie; I watched it four times in less than twelve hours after it premiered. Sunset was amazing and her arc came full circle here. I just hope we're not done with these movies. I still need more Sunset in my life. One of the things I really like about the movie is the subtlety. There is so much to gain from watching it over and over and finding out how certain things went or how characters are reacting to something. It really enriches an already awesome movie.

Depending on how I look at it, this movie's high points can reach up to about the level of Rainbow Rocks, but its low points drop down a bit lower that RR's, but it's above the original in both categories (though by varying amounts).

this movie was epic :) i agree Cinch was a bit weak compared to some other villains but i loved her villain song and loved how they seemed to rip a few cords from "Dancing Mad" to play in the backround whenever she would appear on screen :)

Friendship Games is my favourite movie, but only one of countless I've seen. It touched my heart since I can see a lot of myself in Human Twilight. I went to a school that wasn't completely like Chrystal Prep but the students were only acting nice, when they wanted something from me. My only friends there were in higher or lower grades, who couldn't take advantage of me. The songs were wonderful and the animation got a lot better since the first movie. A friend of mine had all 5 movies (including the MLP movie)at here place and we went binchwatching. We rewatched our favourite episodes then the Movie and out of boredom she introduced me to the Equestria Girs franchise. I actually didn't like the idea at first but after I watched them again I could see the appeal. I had been to focused on "Where are the ponies?" To realise that I can relate way better to them than I their Pony counterparts. They seem as if they could casually walk up to you on the street, being normal teens. I couldn't put my finger on it but I think I just love the overall concept.

Of ALL things Equestria Girls, Friendship Games was by far my favorite of the entire franchise! With the funny little cameo at the end with Princess Twi meeting Sci-Twi, the far more amazing transformations that surpassed those of the previous movies, the way that the music was used (as an exposition and as a montage, as well as the ritualistic chanting of the villain song that focuses on Peer Pressure), the villain being not actually from Equestria originally but rather being peer pressure and a magic trapping device that she has to keep on her at all times or else it could potentially, I don't know...... FLIPPIN, EXPLODE! Because yes, it does activate on it's own, but it's doing it's job. Imagine if that devicd with all that magic built up inside was just thrown out, and ended up damaged while being tossed out. That would have been far worse than the corruption of Sci-Twi which was fixed thanks to Sunset and Spike (NO DEUS EX MACHINA, FILLIES!!!). What was I talking about? Oh, yes, why I loved this movie and still do. Yup, that's it!

I sat on this awhile since I was more focused on the issue of characterization, but yeah, this movie gets pretty deep when you examine it. I couldn't tell you the names of the Shadowbolts representives other than Sweet Sour and Twilight, they got so little screen time -- but the dynamic between Sunset and EQG!Twilight is awesome to watch. The circle truly _is_ complete. Only one question remains (two if you count 'will Brad ever be properly characterized?'): where is EQG!Sunset?

Great review. I also appreciated the nod to Disney towards the end, especially with The Lion King's "Be Prepared" if that is the. Thought they tried to cram too much into this movie and initially thought that talking Spike was a result of the old switcheroo but always happy to hear Cathy's voice anytime, anywhere. If Sunset is the element of Forgiveness (love that notion btw), Spike is the element of Cuteness and gives a solid nod to the bunny sequence earlier in the film. What did bug me is how Twilight was sucking the souls of the mane 6 without any remorse and when it came to the device she created, she claimed to not know how it worked. Scientists meh. As for the principal of Crystal Prep, definitely easy to hate and result of good writing even to the end. I thought that she would be the antagonist but was also shocked but not surprised with the outcome. Was expecting evil Twilight to emerge at some point but not in the Equestria Girls universe. Didn't care for the fiery glasses, when transformed it would not be needed in my opinion. Anyway, thanks again Mad Munchkin. Well done /)

Yeah, this movie is pretty awesome... My theory to how the magic works in this world is that, it has been infected by equestrian magic thanks to good old StarsWirl and who knows how many others just throwing magical stuff to human world (which I am gonna call Earth 2 from now on), after all, the sirens already said that earth 2 has magic, only different. Maybe this earth has managed to evolve into accepting magic as part of the nature and what happened in the first movie, was just a release of it thanks to the connections the elements of harmony have between each other. You know, the same reason why Celestia couldn´t kill Luna the first time. Wow, am I seriously theorizing on the fictional way magic works in a human spin off of My Little Pony? Man, times have changed for me... Anyway, awesome video Maddie.

Maybe you forgot, maybe not, but remember in season 1 of Mlp FIM (I'm lazy sorry), Twilight moved to ponyville because Celestia asked her to make friends, but she kept saying she did not needed to and she only wanted to learn more about magic with her tutor Celestia. In other worlds, Human twilight is just the twiligth from the first season of mlp. I also love Sunset Shimmer for her character evolution, I love her so bad. She embodies the possibility for everyone to do a total 180 change.

I'm surprised that Maddie didn't mention how the movie showed the portal to Equestria's magic got sucked up and so it would seem that the humanized Sunset shimmer and others couldn't get to Equestria, and as Maddie said, Twilight couldn't make it to the "Human world"... The they decided to have Pony Twilight pop into the Human world after the credits/ in the credit scene... YAY for Continuity in MLP
