This entire album really showed how insanely talented Layne was as a singer and brilliant lyricist. These guys were absolutely perfect together. It really gives you a taste of what could have been for Laynes future as a solo artist. He wrote this entire album, even guitar on some tracks. What a tremendous loss. RIP Layne

Oh very true, I totally understand depression and addiction and a lot of us get better with therapy and support. It’s so not worth it when you compare getting high to the high that you get when you hold your first child or grandchild. Life is so much better without booze and drugs , Layne would have loved being a dad!

This album is a masterpiece but let’s not forget any of AIC’s albums and EP’s rank among the best of the 90’s. All of them. His songs hit you hard knowing his fate. He was closer to the end and the lyrics reflected it with Mad Season. Going from God Am to Wake Up is a huge emotional slide in a very short period of time.

Mike mccready is easily one of the most underrated guitarist of all time. I love his work with PJ but he really shines on this album and the temple of the dog album in particular. “Reach Down” by TOTD, “Wake Up” and “Lifeless Dead” on Above is some of this best work If you ask me. That’s not even mention the epic guitar solo is “Alive” and the beautiful acoustic work in “immortality” by PJ . Long live Mike! RIP Layne and John. This album is truly perfect.

These live cuts are great for showing the great sound McCready created. I like these live versions of the songs better than the album versions and a lot of that goes to McCready and the tones he got out of his setup. I appreciate great tone and to my ear he nailed down some great stuff!

@@2B2as1 No Jerry in Mad Season, the other member is John Baker Saunders (RIP) on bass, whom Mike Mcready met in rehab, and the other guy singing here is Mark Lanegan, singer of Screaming Trees and shockingly still alive. Beautiful stuff
