Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin.. In todays video I want to compete and contrast the stratia liquid gold and the Krave Great Barrier Relief Serum to work out which is the best barrier supporting serum for your skincare routine.
The Krave Great Barrier Relief Serum claims to be able to hydrate the skin whilst also soothing it, repairing the skin barrier and calming inflammation.
The Stratia Liquid Gold promises to hydrate the skin, boost barrier function in the skin through the use of ceramides and calm and soothe irritation.
Both cant be the best so which would I pick for my skin care routine - keep watching to find out.

GBR for me. It has the additional brightening effect that Stratia LG doesn't give. I think it's down to the Tamanu oil. I guess it really depends on what you are looking for. If you have a damaged moisture barrier and you are just looking to treat that, then you're probably better off with the LG. But if you're looking for something that strengthens your moisture barrier and gives you a brighter complexion as well as fades hyperpigmentation, then maybe GBR would suit you better. I've seen some people saying that GBR broke them out so that's probably something to take note of (though I personally have not experienced it myself and I have combination skin). Tamanu oil is high in Oleic acid content which means it's heavier in texture and thus may clog your pores.

Honestly I prefer GBF because I have dry skin and it’s much more emollient, but also it’s important to note that Stratia keeps urea in LG because of its NMF properties, not because it’s at a high enough percentage to have any keratolytic properties, which is the same function of lactic acid in a product like The Ordinary Buffet

I love Altruist Urea Creme , it's a bit strong so dilute with another FF simple Moisturiser and that will really help . X

Love these both! I do prefer the Liquid Gold, but by a very slim margin. FYI, GBR also has urea.

Honestly I’ve tried both and didn’t notice much of a difference in my moisture barrier. Definitely prefer the modulating Glucosides from NIOD.

Oh, I have been wanting to try this one for a while. I like so much my aveeno Calm and Restore though, that it hard to let is go :P Have you tried this one? Is the NiOD better?

@@lindseycassini1560 I tried both niod and aveeno. it's definitely niod for me. I've dry and dehydrated skin and aveeno is just not as nourishing as niod, but I guess with normal / oily / combo skin aveeno is probably also fine af ;)

@@wassermelonification I have tried the NIOD a couple months ago while I was having a skin reaction, and it was okay, just didn't do much for me :/ So I think I will stick with the Aveeno, I prefer the texture :)

I haven't used the Krave one but the Stratia liquid gold is the shit, it really does what it claims.

Hi Rob I haven't tried the Krave version, but I have tried the Stratia. There was a whole long story of it's journey round the world and the long wait to get it lol, but when I did try it I'm so so glad I patch tested it. With all the hype around it being so good for a damaged barrier, I had such high hopes for it - oh dear I had the most horrible rash and irritation from it that took ages to settle. I had to use some hydrocortisone and antihistamines to settle it down - a true allergic reaction. I don't know what ingredient is was for sure, but I don't think i've used sea buckthorn oil before and I'm fairly sure that was the culprit. I gave it to my sister to try and she loves it, so it went to a good home. I was so so disappointed in it, after being so excited to try it. Best wishes.

It also might be due to the methyl and propyl parabens. I havent seen too many products out anymore with those as preservatives just because of the controversies (which I don’t entirely buy into because the data is so shit), but they are incredibly strong preservatives that might also have caused the reaction

@@katelynsousa6591 Thanks, as I said I don't know for sure, but I've used skincare for many many years prior to the paraben fear mongering and rarely have had such a severe reaction to anything. As someone with lifelong eczema, i've used a ton of different lotions and potions since childhood - parabens were used as the main preservative for so many years. I've used other products with parabens without issue, whilst sea buckthorn isn't something i've used before (hence why I thought it might be that ingredient). Without patch testing (or buying a bottle of pure sea bucktorn oil lol) it's still an unknown. It could also be something else in the formulation entirely. x

@@lorainemcgillivray77 That too, I totally feel the eczema struggle and Im only 17 so I aged with a lot of the paraben fear, but now I actually have a few products with parabens in them when I educated myself about it so who knows 🤷‍♀️

Comment mainly for algorithm but... I want to say that, on your recommendation, i got Stratia Interface and Serum. Holy cow! I had a moment of, "Omg, so this is what quality products do!" Immediate difference and I'm looking forward to the long-term effects. The only downside is shipping to Scotland £s. Have you ever thought of being the UK supplier for this? It would be wonderful bc the shipping costs do give one pause. We need a UK supplier and i think that that man should be you. Jes' sayin'....

It might be important to let people know Stratia isn't Vegan. I'm not sure how important that is to people but it is me. Krave is vegan. All their products are.

How do you get Stratia products in the UK Rob? I was interested but it did not seem they ship ti the UK. So far, my favourite calming/barrier serum is the Aveeno Calm and Restore, love the texture.

How do these compare to the new Ordinary barrier serum?

The Stratia product unfortunately contains parabens, plus its form of urea is not the beneficial type but the formaldehyde releasing preservative diazolidinyl urea. I'll check out the Krave product to set me up for dry winter air!
