Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippo, Melman the giraffe and four penguins live at the Central Park Zoo in New York. Everything would have been fine if Marty hadn't run away. Alex, Gloria and Melman go in search of him, but all the residents of the city are caught and transported in boxes to another zoo. The penguins take control of the ship, and the boxes fall out of it. The main characters find themselves in Madagascar, where they have to perform several feats for the benefit of the island, save lemurs and defeat evil foxes. But it's not that simple, and Alex has already gone crazy.
