I find Madagascar so fascinating because it is isolated. Thanks for the doc.

I think that this has been filmed in the late 90's or early 2000 but things has got worse since especially in rural regions like the South where there is even less water and drought. The South East thankfully doesn't lack water but bad roads and connectivity with the other parts of Madagascar makes trade and food supply more difficult. There is improvement of course for some elite and there is a new middle class but its only in big cities like the capital Antananarivo.Corruption has got worse, covid and the war has made prices skyrocketed .Forest are dissapearing despite that some people are replanting but you have on the other side mass deforestation to plant maize for big corporations like local beer companies. These gangs that burn down the forests are often protected by some local politicians and this give them carte blanche to get physcially rid of anybody that stand in their path,The large Chinese fishing boats are mass fishing thus causing the doom of these Sakalava Vezoo fishermen that you see in the documentary, the same Chinese fishinmg vessels also collect the illegal endangered rosewood that are exported to China. The same Chinese also operate slaughterhouses that buy stolen zebus which is one of the biggest threats in the country.Zebu stealing causes more than a hundred death yearly with the local bandits called Dahalos. In the documentary it says that they fish selectively but this is not true anymore ,they have to fish in order not to die and the worse is that there is people from other parts who were not into fishing but agriculturers that improvise themselves into fishing .The latters don't take into consideration reproduction period and fish the whole year.Vanilla in tthe North East has imporve the lives of most people but the this has attracted more thieves and now people die and are killed for Vanilla. I love Madagascar but I don't see any future any soone for this country as long as the local politicians remain corrupted and only think of fremaining into power.

To stop the deforestation for coal, solar panel should be a worthwile investment.

The problem is that 90% of the population live with less than 2 euros a day .They can't even buy cooking gas and an oven so the solar panel won't be of any help. The biggest problem of Madagascar is corruption and the enclavement of the cities. There are some places that it takes 5 days to drive 100km during rainy seasons and sometimes more. The road are getting worse and this doesn't give much opportunity to the local populations.I lived in Madagascar in the mid nineties for 2 and half years but things have gotten even worse since.
