Mad City Modern

Күн бұрын

I purchased this painted antique buffet from Facebook Marketplace. In this video I will attempt to restore, refinish, and preserve what's left of this treasure. I will strip the paint from the furniture, sand the entire piece, and apply several finishes to bring this sideboard back to life. You don't want to miss this transformation. This is one of my favorite furniture restorations.

This is why I don't like those TV programmes where they try an upcycle furniture, people try and paint stuff badly and resell it. I remember the antique globe cocktail server that someone painted in chalk paint and got roasted online for it.

Me too - I actually gasped! Since this was for your own personal use and pleasure, my opinion doesn't make a bit of difference, but I would probably have tried to repair the veneer with patching and touch-up. Anything, though, would have been an improvement over blue paint slathered on everything; baffles me how people think that is a good look. Love how the different tones of the wood worked together as a harmony, pleased you didn't try to make it look all one shade.

Now that crap is all over EVERYTHING, and everybodys an artist😂😂not to mention , some are rattle can artists 🤦🏽‍♀️ NOW we gotta scrape and sand and scrub all that ugliness off! In some ways, I'm glad this piece got painted blue and kept. So many other beautiful items were simply thrown away because they were "old fashioned". The previous owners act of mild vandalism, preserved this item from destruction until it could be restored. Gratefully, it fell to you, sir, and you have done as you always do, you have brought back a charming old piece to its former glory. I am heartened with every project you undertake, as forgotten gems are once again free to shine in thier elegance. I hope you have many, many more such days in front of you so this world will continue to see the majesty in these Mid Century and Art Deco items.

1. My daughter just introduced me to your channel by sending me this video. 2. But you know, to each his own. 3. I appreciate how meticulous you are. 4. I appreciate how CLEAN you are. 5. The buffet looked so beautiful (like actually beautiful) afterwards and fit very nicely in the room. The stain choice, the hardware, the conditioning wax...I love it all. 6. LL 2. I have a beautiful old bedroom set that because of improper storage the veneer is peeling or broken, and the stain is badly chipped. When ever I finally turn my storage shed into a work shop I want to restore the wood. It is from the 1930's and very ornate and carved. It's a dark stain with lighter undertones. Think I will tackle the chair or ottoman first! Have not worked on furniture in many years!

Love your channel ❤. I’m in England so it’s funny how 100 year old furniture is old over there. We dream of such modern pieces! I have a saggy old Queen Anne chest of drawers to repair. So that’s from about 1710 then. No wonder it’s knackered. Xx

Thank you for the video. I never realized until more recent how VERY important it is for us to preserve what has come before us. I have these dressers and bedside table that are so damn heavy and all I thought before I moved is they are ugly and old and I will throw them away if no-one buys for $5 in garage sale. Then I looked at newer furniture...made of crap and can fall over if I blow at it and thought ….dang what the heck are you doing. So I have pieces I want to get fixed and hopefully I can figure out how to do it. You have inspired me.

People will always have opinions. Not everybody will like what you do. That’s called being human. Beautiful job and piece. Many podcasters respond by calling anyone that doesn’t agree with you or like what you’re doing or saying call the people mean or haters. If you only want good comments don’t go on line. Doesn’t make them mean or haters it’s an opinion

I completely disagree. I never mind any comments from people who respectfully disagree with my work. Every once in awhile there are comments that come from a place of total hate. I'm not crying about it, just standing up against it. There is a difference
