The WCO is one of the more interesting offenses in terms if the passing. A love how your in a tight sets, but everyone are still expected to catch passes. It reminds me a little of the pro-style offense where TEs and FBs, and HB are utilized in the passing game. A huge dose of Play Action and rollouts can keep defense on their toes.

This is what I think, so correct me where I go astray. The biggest difference between the original wco and the walsh wco, is the qb progression. Coryell, with fouts and co, would read deep to short, while walsh preferred short to deep. Roger Craig was just amazing, his ability to catch the ball would make him a star in today's game, and I feel he is sadly over looked when people talk about the best rb's of all time. Those high knees just driving through defenders, that image will forever be etched in my mind. The air raid, with it's triangles and shallow cross routes, are now staples in every wco and coryell offense. The RNS just got an unfair stigma attached to it, but those option routes have made stars of welker and cruz, and has really given new life to the undersized wide receiver. I have to mention one more individual, and if it wasn't for racism at ohio state, woody hayes would not even be known... sid gilman! Growing up in columbus, oh, I cannot help but think... what if. Ok, one more name, lance alworth, I can't say sid gilman without thinking of alworth.

Craig should be in the hall of fame, no idea how he isn't. I would say the biggest differences is route tree, qb progression, and how the running game was used. The running game is usually used a game closer consisting of lots of traps, counters, misdirection, delays, sweeps. Now, you see much more zone blocking thanks to Denver's success n the late 90's-early 2000's. You saw that A LOT in Kubiak's variation of the WCO in Houston. The Coryell philosophy likes to run the ball with power..and take deep shots at any and every opportunity, especially off of playaction. I actually think the Coryell philosophy is the more fluid of the two. West Coast is pass-first..period. It'll almost always skew towards the pass. Coryell...not necessarily so. Joe Gibbs had The Hogs, John Riggins and "The Posse". Mike Martz and Norv Turner's offenses looked very different: Norv had an all time OL, and one of the great workhorse backs of all time, but both ran "Bang-Post" - Deep Post by X, Deep Dig by Z, Crosser by Y, 5 million times. The difference was in personnel: In Turner's offense, Y was Jay Novacek and Antonio Gates .In Martz's Y was Marshall Faulk. In Sean Payton's offense, Y could literally by anyone...usually Colston..but it can be a TE, WR, HB, even a FB. The West Coast is super anal by necessity..so much is predicated on the receiver and QB being on time. If one, or both, of them are a little late or a little early, the whole thing goes to hell, and fast..unless you have a guy like Steve Young who can run for 40 yards when things break down. The biggest change to the WCO IMO, is that slot receivers have replaced the routes of the HB and FB out of the backfield, as the game has gone more spread.

That's what worries me with my Lions, the perfect execution that's required to run that Saints offense that Joe lombardi has brought with him from New Orleans. I meant to mention the coryell power run game, and it's great backs- muncie, riggins, emmitt, and LT. I also meant to mention the zone blocking scheme, and how it can make a star out of a back that doesn't have the greatest physical talent, but has superior vision. Oh, I meet Terrell Davis, it was at the arnold fitness expo in 98. His humility and character just blew me away! As I started to walk away, I told him "god bless you," and he quickly chased me down and said, "thank you so much for saying that, that means more to me than any complement about winning the super bowl!" I can't talk about the zone running game, because TD always comes to mind. Andy reid does run the purist form of the wco in the league, and alex smith has the perfect home.

Smith should marry Reid, really lol..You know who shocked me? The one full season Vick started under Reid. Vick's a dog and was playing for a contract, but he was spectacular. Vick could have been so much more then what he is. He didn't want to put the work in.

Lmbo alex smith-reid, that's scary! I hate to see people throw away their god given talent, such as vick. That being said, you can see players that do not have nearly as much god given physical skill, but their work ethic allows them to exceed their physical short comings. Emmit, Rice, neither one had ideal 40 times, but they were craftsmen. The biggest shock for me, when I learned over the hof weekend, Aeneas Williams ran a 4.71 40 time... but could cover anyone! That is why I think 40 times are highly overrated, because some people just cannot run as well versus a stop watch. Game speed, and this is a captain obvious statement, cannot be timed, but is the most important thing of all. I think they should do away with the combine, and just go by game film and individual work outs.

I'm not sure of this but i think chip only really had to adapt the passing game the run game is pretty much the same except with nick foles it's not zone read with a handoff or a keep it's zone read with a bubble screen.

CPU AI looks much better. I haven't seen people just routinely slaughtering every team that they play, on default settings. That's a very good sign. One thing I really notice is that guys are taking more sacks and getting hit, then they are used to. People are used to pretty large throwing lanes, and they are much smaller. I'm sure the nerds will do their thing and think up ways to crack the AI, so we'll see how head to head goes. The most glaring thing that I notice is that you have a couple of physics mishaps occur here and there: things like the qb's arm coming in contact with a OL, and causing a fumble (which is fine),but the arm morphing through the guy's body. The CPU will still try to shaft you on those times when they simply need to score. PastaPadre posted a video highlight of Johnny Manziel pulling off a miracle. He escaped a sack, spun around, and threw a dang strike, 40 yds downfield. Not sure what the solution to that is..not even sure that there is one..sports games have been like that forever.
