"You'll see him when he is 50 & you will still be 23" - dark as hell

As dark as it was I can't help but find it soothing. It didn't matter to Jesus that the child would outlive the father, as that is how expects life to be. But it did matter to him that no matter how old either of them would be in the event of their deaths that they'd see each other again.

Judgment day when everyone is resurrected. My question is "Jesus remarks how hard it is to hit 12." I guess is this is a reference to the 12 apostles, Judis betrayed him; he knew this before the last supper.

Why am I so drawn to this entire depot/train scene? The banter among the soldiers is relatively light hearted yet there's an overwhelming heaviness. They matter-of-factly state how they'll each die in a detached, almost boastful way because they are in fact detached souls. There's an eerie silence in the background until the train arrives, taking each of them to their pre-destined, early, wasteful deaths. The soldier that dies of the flu is just as dead as the soldier dying from a trench cave in.

This is an amazing scene. Jesus playing cards with the souls of men. Entertaining them, listening to them, encouraging them. Even being there with them to the end; even defending the one who would wouldn't die but goes on to suffer more. The ending with him mourning the loss of life as he leads them, wearing a death shroud. He wears the shroud only partially as the chosen one to usher the living to the dead.

There's something so terrifyingly haunting about that steam train at the end (which is what I came for). I've always thought steam trains were both magnificent and terrifying. They have transported millions upon millions of people to a new life as well as to a horrifying death. When the steam whistle blows as it's coming towards you in the dead of the night, it has a unique kind of terror, like death is coming to take your soul.

Beautiful story. This isn't Christ, but the Soldiers perception of him in his mind. He can perform all of these party tricks to entertain the masses, but is incapable of saving him from his suffering. Hes alienated from the other soldiers who had the "honour" of dying.

I watched this film the other day. It's probably the most moving film ive ever seen. It really resonates with me, and strangely, I really relate to it. I am not a veteran, or physically disabled, but I am autistic, and the frustration of trying everything you can to communicate and being ignored really resonates with me.

I find that interesting too since in World War 1 the black soldiers were the first American troops sent to Europe to fight after America joined the War. I wonder what this could mean, though I know this is symbolism to racism of the time that is for sure. Very interesting stuff!

Of all the roles Donald Sutherland has been in, from Body Snatcher, to evil Warden, to space cowboy, I never thought for the life of me that he'd play Jesus Christ. Makes Dogma much hilarious in hindsight considering both he and Alanis Morisette are Canadian and both play Jesus and God respectfully.

This is likely the dumbest comment I've ever read in any relation to Johnny Got His Gun. If it was a person Joe himself would wish to change minds with it so he could have a functioning body while the decerebrate mind is in the body that everybody thought was decerebrate. Doubt you even notice what I just did there.
@Shanethefilmmaker4 жыл бұрын
Bare in mind it wouldn't have worked within the context of the story. The way Jesus appeared to Joe, is often debated as fantasy v reality, with it leaning toward's fantasy since Joe's mind was deteriorating through isolation induced madness. However the way he appeared to Joe was how the average White American Christian during WWI viewed Jesus. Blonde Haired, blue eyed, all around nice guy. The appearance interpretation itself was one of many things that caused Cassius Clay to convert to Islam and change his name to Muhammad Ali to begin with, because he didn't feel right watching his father paint a mural of an Aryan Jesus. If say a black christian person or Asian christian person were to be in a situation like Joe, we'd probably see their interpretations of Jesus as how they want to see Jesus.
