The conversation of A’keria speaking on hiding parts of her around her nephew to avoid people blaming her if he does end up being gay is so touching to me. I’m going through something similar with my 8 y/o nephew as well. It’s sad because it goes against my belief that people are born gay. Obviously my behavior wouldn’t affect his sexuality, but again, that potential blame makes me hide things. I’m struggling to navigate through it. It’s weird.
@Michael-Gugel2 ай бұрын
For me, the term „internalised homophobia“ instantly came to mind… No straight would ever „blame“ their straight parents for turning out straight, but queer people think about hiding their own nature in front of their kids out of fear they could blame(!) them once they grow up. Well, there needs to be a problem or failure in the first place, to think about „blame“. Internalised homophobia.
@QSandoreBeaute2 ай бұрын
I’m literally going through the same thing. My nephew is 1 and I just be going through it. Especially being a makeup artist and sometimes I may wear it and I just don’t want him running into me mid blend. I remember growing up my aunt would blame my cousin who’s a lesbian and 10 years older than me that she was the reason I was gay. And that stuck with me so I don’t want nobody saying my nephew is a way because of me
@bm41142 ай бұрын
But also there’s an inherent narcissism in thinking 1. You could make a child gay knowing full well one can’t. And 2. Thinking that everyone is thinking about you. If anything you are showing this potentially gay child to hide who they are. So snap out of it Mary and do yourself and everyone else around you a favor and be yourself. We aren’t grooming anyone by being ourselves.
@calpal81982 ай бұрын
@@bm4114 a powerful and true call to action, but I also hold space and peace for them fearing not their family being influenced as gay, but the accusations from family that that's what happened and god forbid losing your place in family's life because of that bias and hate in their heart- you're right! and sometimes we do bad math because we value our place in family's life even if they're not ready to see the honest truth of their bias or who we are
@shawnbay22112 ай бұрын
I’m so glad A’keria’s family is so supportive that her mother introduced A’keria’s drag 2 the nephew. I wouldn’t contextualise it as internalised homophobia, but fear of being shamed. So I’m glad that everybody else is proving A’keria’s fears wrong.

"detransitioning" shouldn't be taboo. i think some people who go on the journey can be overwhelmed by everything. i definitely was and i'm grateful of my circle being supportive of me. they were there when i stopped my hormones at one point then started back in, went by different pronouns and names. i didn't feel judged and accepted every version i was, even if i continued with my assigned sex/gender at birth. it took me nearly 4 years on hormones, and 3 years as nonbinary, to come out as trans femme. Maddie & Akeria are great examples of going on this journey to find that who they were before is what fits, and thats okay. for other trans people out there feeling lost in the journey, remember that you are great at whichever version fits you most.

Sad that she feels the need to hide such a big part of herself even to the child she’s raising because she’s scared others will think she’s grooming a child. Children do get inspired by a parents hobby or profession and that’s always viewed as cute in any other situation. It would be so cool to have an artist parent that transforms like that for a living and is famous for it . Absolutely nothing to hide or be ashamed of that’s a big deal and well respected to those who respect the art of drag. You’re an artist . A successful one. Your child can be proud of that fact. As can you mama 💖

Yall lack context. Akeria is a Black drag queen from Texas. Being from a blue state she probably feels the need to be very mindful of how she moves, because the homophobia is real in Texas. You still have people that feel that anyone that is LGBT shouldn't be near children, which is BS. I'm saying that as a straight Black woman in Texas that's a proud ally to the community. If her nephew were to come out as LGBT later in life she would be blamed or accused of worse. She knows what she's doing.

yes, I think people would be shocked about the sheer amount of variety in things like fruits and vegetables and the like. humans have been working at agricultural ventures for thousands of years, and it shows. nearly any fruit you can think of in the store, there are a plethora of varieties to choose from even if there's only one common kind you have access to at large supermarkets. some clearer ones that often have a few choices like apples, pears, melons, oranges. there are tons of each of those, but also different varieties of strawberries, blueberries, mango, etc. Some have smaller differences between variety (like some varieties of berry) while others have large, like the stark difference between a tommy atkin mango and an ataulfo mango. you can still get gros michel bananas, they just aren't grown commercially anymore so you'd have to seek them out from a place that sells them, probably online. lots of fruits have a shockingly large difference between at least one set of varieties, think of navel oranges vs mandarin oranges. it's all very interesting and I think a lot of people don't appreciate fruit enough because they disregard importance of buying in season, and they aren't aware of truly how much the category has to offer because they've only ever been to large supermarkets
