Hicks was never trying to make people laugh, he was trying to make them think and he was ready to sacrifice the humor for it. He just didn't give a shit if you would laugh, but there are clips of him on youtube, where he is in a good mood and he is destroying the crowd with bits, and other comedians loved him because he was not scared to stick with his bit even if he is booming hard, even to the point that people are leaving the room.

The Gulf War was an armed conflict between Iraq and a 42-country coalition led by the United States. The coalition's efforts against Iraq were carried out in two key phases: Operation Desert Shield, which marked the military buildup from August 1990 to January 1991; and Operation Desert Storm, which began with the aerial bombing campaign against Iraq on 17 January 1991 and came to a close with the American-led liberation of Kuwait on 28 February 1991.

I wondered if Heath Ledger prepared for his Joker role in The Dark Knight by watching Bill Hicks.

In my opinion Hicks was born to be a comedian.. there's footage of him at like 16-17 years old being more comfortable on stage than comedians almost twice his age.

This wasn't Bill's best set. Remember Maddy, it's _comedy,_ not a sociology lecture. He'd agree with much that you had to say about porn. Also worth recalling Bill died of cancer a few years later, and regretted his history of smoking. He actually had a very positive outlook on humanity, just a cynical view of certain aspects of it.

@@thrashersheaf7440 Yes, I am aware of that, but even he saw the connection between his smoking and the cancer that killed him.

Hey :) i liked your opinions, and agreed for the most part. But.. Hicks is just funnier with his. And also, dont forget that he is a comedian. On stage to ake people laugh. So they might not be his true opinions. Or if they are, they're probably exaggerations on them. Done for effect.

He's a pure misantrope, but he's really fun sometimes. As I come from a family with a christian mother I cringe a bit on his takes on christians. I just don't like them and find'em a bit condescending, although I'm just an agnostic

I found his sex jokes a little weak. And his constant put downs of people is a little tiresome. You might enjoy the Bhagavad Gita. It's set at the moment a war involving the whole world is about to begin. Krishna has argued all along to stop the war happening. But at the moment of blowing the horn to start the fighting the warrior, Arjuna, tells Krishna he can't do it. So many friends and family on the other side. Krishna says, get back in the chariot, it's time for action. The book is the argument between them until Krishna finally convinces Arjuna to start. I love that story and yet I would do anything to end wars. Krishna fascinates me as he cheats and lies and yet is profoundly wise. Sorry for raving, where did all that come from?
