I'm definitely a producer cuz I can't even let my beats go just anybody especially when I have an idea for how the song should go.The best hip hop/rap songs had producers controlling the vibe, finding the right mix engineers for the flavor they want adding drops , breakdowns, and bridges, putting the right singers on the hooks. I heard TI's producer say that nowadays they're releasing music that's not even finished. After the artist lays the vocals the producer normally goes in in add things to polish the record. Do you ever use spatial when you mix? So you can do like 7.2 surround make peoples heads spin lol. I love doing that make they keys swirl around the room give it some sick stereo bass or even 4 way bass. I guess not everyone has subs in their back speakers lol im working on a setup now where my back speakers will be 8x2 2 way speakers front is going to be B52's 18 inch 2 ways lol. then I am doing a professional JBL 18 for the main sub the one with the steel handles so none of that stupid plastic sound. those B52 18's rock for $250 best bang for your buck out there.
