I write it down in a Hobonichi weeks, whenever I in a pen. The extra pages are used for swatching new inks.

I began writing down, on a separate page, of a journal the date an individual pen was inked and with which ink to make it easier to reduce the mixing of inks in refilling the pens - it's easy to see how things could get out of hand and I just can't trust my memory. The big challenge now is to remember where the journal is - haha. Someone had recommended using a shop type of towel for ink spills and wiping the nib - it's worked much better for me than paper towels and offers another reminder of what inks I've been exploring.

For ink (and pens) I use a midori b6 slim notebook and create essentially a spreadsheet of pens and inks and months, then I list the pens in use with their inks for the month, while also checking off pens to see how often I use one and hopefully remind me to use others and the same with the inks. And of course, I do a little swab for the inks. This allows me to track my use for 2 years...and yes, I draw the charts because I use my pens rather than allowing Microsoft Excel or other software to suck the joy out of my hobby.

I keep two journals. A Hobonichi cousin and a dot grid. In my dot grid there is a decorative monthly calendar, a large month appropriate sticker (theme), monthly to do list synced with Hobonichi, monthly meals page, currently reading, watching, excited about, and my currently ink page. With the monthly check on all my inked pens, I clean, fill, or change inks all at the beginning of the month. I have a reference guide when I need a certain ink.

Happy Independence Day! I do not keep track of the inks in my pens; however, I have a good memory and I only use the inks that have been rotated to my desk. So Its fairly easy to identify the inks in my pens.

There's no way I'd know what ink is in what pen without help. I keep a currently inked notebook with pen, ink, date inked, date cleaned, and a swatch. I also do a "currently inked" summary sheet about once a month. This gives me an opportunity to keep the ink flowing even if I haven't used the pens much, and I also find some that have written dry and are ready for cleaning.

Tip one, keep few similar inks on hand. Tip two, find someone with perfect color vision. Tip three, order more of the ink you like before using it up. Option four, develop a key, similar to those used in biological identifications. And for the chemists: set up a thin-layer chromatography database cross referenced to ink swatches. As for me? I am sticking to tip one. I currently have black, blue, green, and orange in my 4 inked pens.

Great show you two. Hope your 4th of July was fun and relaxing. I track my current inked pens in my journal. I save the last pages in the back for a monthly list. Ink/pen. Because I can NEVER remember what I have.

Hope your store wasn’t flooded!! I have a 5 pen / field notes journal and jot down the pens and inks before I start a new notebook. Notebook is usually filled with all 5 inks! Then I start over with a new notebook/pens and inks!

Great show. I look forward to it every week. I am an accountant and keep track of my 200 pens and what they are inked with on an excel spreadsheet. Inked pens are highlighted in yellow and one cell in the highlighted line contains the name of the current ink.

Happy 4th of July 🎆! I keep track in a small notebook. I keep that small notebook with my planner. I sometimes also include a “currently inked” in my planner, too. It’s fun to see all of the pens and inks in one place!

Oh dear, I'm so crass. I put a small strip of masking tape on the outside of my pen with the name of the ink! I got tired of trying to decide what ink was in which pen. I have a friend who always color coordinates her pens and inks. I do that sometimes, but still have trouble recalling which red ink is in the red pen (for example). Happy July 4th, and thanks for another fun show. Wish I could afford the Mont Blanc - it was a beauty.

I keep a pen and ink notebook where I record the pen and the specified ink filled by date, as well as if , at a later date I clean the pen out. Its either refilled ( and with what ink) or set aside. If I end up with too many pens inked up, I then , using my daily journal refreshing my memory, using the above mentioned ink notebook go over the named inks in the pens as I use them.

Curiosity kills cats, but not me. I’m waiting for next week’s big reveal. I have a spreadsheet that has a pen inventory list showing each pen’s characteristics (color, nib material & size, etc), the app also has a list of all my inks sortable by maker, color, name; and a page for my pens and their current ink and location (which pen case). I can use the ink list to replace the old ink when I change the ink in aa pen (which I do on a few of my pens). Some of my grails keep the same ink. Happy Independence Day. Go for the gold.

I only have two inked, so keeping track is easy. One has Conklin Vintage Purple and the other has Noodler's Hawthorne's Scarlet. If I ink a third, it usually gets Monteverde Horizon Blue.

For some pens I just remember because they have always been inked with the same inks. For the pens that I add into my rotation every month, I write them in a passport traveler's notebook so that I can see what I have inked month to month.

I rely on memory, which maybe works for about half to 2/3 of my inked pens. The rest will need to be cleaned before their next refill.

Happy 4th of July! Whenever I ink a new pen I record it at the end of my primary journal starting at the end and working towards the front. I do have a pen dedicated to my Hobonichi Techo and, I record ink changes in the month-by-month pages at the beginning of that journal.

For tracking which ink in which active pen, I use two methods. The first is an EDC Excel spreadsheet that David Parker of Figboot on Pens shared on one of his youtubes. He worked one up with tabs for tabs for EDC, inks, wishlist, pens - you get the idea. The second is my Hobinichi Cousin where I include in the title what pen / ink I am using to journal with. Both seem to work well.

To keep track of inks used, I have a couple methods. A notebook of pen use with ink and dates used and not inking too many pens. I tried the Fountain Pen Companion for a while but prefer notebooks.

I have a monthly currently inked journal that includes what ink is in each pen inked up at that moment. If I change inks during the month, I record it there as well. It makes me crazy when I forget to write it down, as I have a million different teal and turquoise inks! Good to see you both.

Since I only keep 2 or 3 pens inked at a time, I *should* be able to remember what’s in them. But I’m 65 with a sketchy memory, so I found an app called Pens that I use to note all the important info about my pens, including what’s in them.
@jeffellis6623 ай бұрын
I use a spreadsheet to keep track of all my pens and what they are filled with. It’s the edc spreadsheet from Figboot on pens KZbin channel. With it I know what pen has which ink as well as when I last used the pen. It also gives other stats, but I don’t look at those. Of my 111 pens I have 7 in the current rotation and inked. I have 54 inks in the spreadsheet which I sort by color.

Brian has some competition Lisa since I keep track of all my pens in a spreadsheet with the relevant stats. I also have columns to keep track of the ink brand, series (if it is a series ink) and the color. It works well as long as I don't take too long to make the appropriate entries!!

Hi Lisa and Brian. Happy 4th of July! Waffles sound great! I don’t really keep track of what ink is in my pens. My EDC pens are usually the, and the two or three wildcard pens have whatever I think of at the time I ink it up. For what ever reason I can tell you what ink is in whichever pen.

I just rely on memory. If I forget,it's not a big deal, since I currently don't use any inks that I'd either specifically need for some reason (such as waterproof ink), or need to avoid for some uses (unusal "non-business" ink colors).

I’d be lost without these little notebooks that are now, sadly, out of production. There were spaces for pen, nib size, ink brand/color, date inked and date cleaned. I make a mark in the corner when the pen is cleaned and empty-so I can open the book and at a glance tell what’s inked and with what. It’s easy to forget with the size of my ink collection. (Note: there’s a market for a remake of this wonderful product. Lisa??)

Belated happy birthday Brian. I really should come up with a system but normally rely on what few inks I've been recently using and then hust trying to match colors. On a totally different note, how is that with the 5th being national apple turnover day, you live in a town called Appleton and you don't like apples. Hope the mayor doesn't find out, you might be in trouble.

Good morning! Happy Independence Day! Q: What does the Statue of Liberty stand for? A: It can’t sit down. I've used a notebook to record the pens and inks in current use, but right now it's simple. 4 inks, 4 pens in use. Will I get back to recording? Sure, when I get more in use.

I have a notebook with the month at the top then pen name and ink listed. I create a new list each month even if the pen and ink is the same as last month. Then add any new pens I ink that month.
