Made my TD42 sound like an old supercharged cummins diesel *watch till the end*

Whilst running in the motor in on my nissan patrol I ran open waste gate on the turbo so it would run next to no boost, it gave it an old supercharged cummins diesel sound. Head phones will do this sound some more justice turn up the volume!!!

Curious...while it does sound good, how does it get such a lumpy exhaust note?

I put it down to the tuned length exhaust manifold that I run, couple mates have the same and they sound similar

It was bought to suit td but yes tb and td are same stud pattern. Also it sits the turbo in between cylinders 3 and 4 so you can fit a full 3 inch dump pipe on the back of the turbo, unlike most hi mount manifolds that sit the turbo between cylinders 4 and 5 which puts the turbo too close to the firewall👍

If I do this to a TD I’m keeping like that unless it’s does a heap of damage, but I do guess all the TD’s my father has had have been nothing but trouble.

@@raymondxerri1408 It's burning it all, but too much=potential holes in pistons, burnt valves, head issues. EGTs go through the roof, that's one way of measuring when you're in the danger zone haha.

I call it the thong slap. Nobody else knows what I’m on about though 😂 I really want to know how to make this sound. What’s funky? I hear big semis sounding like this which I assume is just because they’re under high load and lower rpm. Is it inefficient or unhealthy ?

If you read the description on the all I did was disconnect the waste gate arm and it made cool noise. Also I have the tuned length manifold from hybrid made in New Zealand, they sound way better than a log manifold in my opinion🤙

This is the worst way to run in an engine. In actual fact absolute opposite of locking the gate and running maximum boost and lean fuel mixture would have been safer.

Matt Waters read the description, open wastegate with 11mm compensated pump and tuned length manifold, it’s back up to 16psi and doesn’t do it anymore
