I don't know if you ever heard of the reference "balls out" but trains had 2 balls that would spin on a shaft when they would accelerate that's about the right size. You will see what I'm talking about if you Google it. There called centrifugal governor or fly ball governors.

Vintage Strongman BarbelL... THAT IS A ROUND HOLE, WHAT HE FOUND IS A SQUARE HOLE, WHICH WOULD MEAN A SQUARE BAR AND THAT IS NOT A BARBELL. I WAS THINKING CHAIN GANG BALL.. ONCE AGAIN A SQUARE HOLE ON BOTH SIDES. NOW IN THE EVENT, THEY BROKE THE CHAIN OFF... SOME ARE SQUARE.. CHAIN ATTACHMENTS.. IT WOULD BREAK OFF IN A SQUARE, BUT NOT ON BOTH ENDS. IT IS THE RIGHT SIZE AND IF PRISONERS (SLAVES) BROKE FREE, THEY WOULD RUN THROUGH THE CREEK.. THEY DID WORK ON RAILROADS.. YOUR BARBELL IS BORED OUT, BUT IT IS NOT SQUARE. IT IS A ROUND HOLE FOR A ROUND POLE. I DON'T THINK I'M RIGHT EITHER, BUT PRISONER BALLS WERE MARKED WITH A VISIBLE WEIGHT ON THEM TOO. IT COULD BE, THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT KINDS.. WHO KNOWS, MAYBE HE CAN FiND THE LEG IT WAS ATTACHED TO =) did he not find a gun?
@pinstripingbybear.3 жыл бұрын
@@DiaryofaGrimReaper on the ball and chain it wouldn't have any holes or wood due to Prisoners being able to excape easier plus the balls were a solid Cast iron ball with the cast tab sticking out so the chain could be Hammer welded by a blacksmith . And the ball and Chain did have numbers on them but it was the LBS of the ball that changed for due to the prisoners size
@pinstripingbybear.3 жыл бұрын
@@DiaryofaGrimReaper now what i did find researching the cast iron ball was there were a few uses for them with a square hole.. one They were used on the end of Banisters just like the wood ones but they had cast iron ones .. Two They were used for the end of swing sets to keep them balance from falling over side to side of some reason. Three they were used on outdoor tables to keep them down in the winds. Or four As a fence topper decoration like the iron rod fences have now but the wood ones with Cast iron balls on an entrance of a gate lets say.. so we are both wrong

that thing you thought was a cannonball might actually be a Toledo torch smudge pot road flare warning signal Smudge Pots were also used at road construction sites as a warning for motorists, much as traffic cones are used today. In the past, there was no such thing as a reflective device and the lit smudge pots were the warning lights for drivers. They used kerosene for fuel. A wick was used to bring the fuel up to the top of the smudge pot where it burned. The top of the smudge pot has a protective cover, open on the sides, to protect from burns
