ADDENDUM: I READ THE COSTUME CHRONICLES (thanks, Moonie) Precious' ribbon belt is specifically a Maruguke Spicy's skirt has a scalloped edge to resemble bread Finale's skirt is inspired by fruit cake. This explains the shape. Still not a fan but it's good to get some clarity🥳

you bring up a good point when you say this season really started to show what they have to offer! I also look for little motifs like triangles is pink and spicy is spirals and yum yum is lines. Always love the breakdowns! Great video ❤ And yes you’re so right ! the attention to detail in this season but yet still feels so fun and animated. I also loved takumi’s jacket design

@@cureicevery much so and the new colors etc. I would love a yellow lightning cure who used lightning more too. Maybe pink could be air, blue ice and yellow lightning. I love go princess but you’re right. I may have to finish this season. I just feel like if final’s skirt was more like fortunes maybe it would work but idk maybe her theme but yeah she doesn’t have a set symbol unless it’s that star symbol in her pendant and her hair? Idk or maybe it’s hearts cause her compact, her crown and wedding or bridal can be linked to love idk her hair feels very heroic but the skirt isn’t good with it idk her strong jaw and hair give me like maybe Swedish baker hero idk

Just comparing by Cure finale and cure parfait designs, I think Parfait inspiration was done alot better; the top is like a parfait stand, the side rainbow skirt, and fruits that aren’t too distracting.

Yui/Precious design means the world to me, I love the teal accents and triangular shapes in her cure form with my life and her purple eyes in civilian form are so unique !! I love how calming, but still interesting and cute her clothes are. I will not tolerate Yui hate

I ADORE Delicious Party’s designs and just the season overall. I’m not too knowledgeable on design attributes and other stuff. I just look at a design give an opinion and look at it a few days later and change my mind . But I’m just yapping and saying nonsense. Im just glad to see Delicious Party praise for one 😅

I really like your Precure design diary. Hope you can make more in future. Very suprise to know Cure Finale is the only one don't have culture influence, i alaways think her outfit take inspiration from France. And i kinda see Finale don't have visually motif, consider other 3 cure have 3 attacks and finale have only have 2 attacks.

It's certainly possible that she's inspired by France. I should look into that. I think Finale needed a but more focus. Story and design wise

Delicious Party was my first Pretty Cure season I started to watch so I’m a bit Biased, but I really do like the designs. There so colorful and chaotic, and while people have problems with the amount of detail they have, I personally love it. Also this season is the reason why I don’t mind the classic primary colors. As long they’re different enough and each Cure having a good amount of variety in colors. Rip to the animators though. Each cure has a pattern on their dress that looks like a pain to animate.

Your design breakdowns are all really helpful for me as an artist!! Odd question if you'd be willing to answer, but if you could give Finale a different dessert than a parfait, or a specific culture to take inspo from, what would you pick? And what kinda shape motif do you think would fit her aswell?

Hmmm, since there's no one with a heart motif, it would be fun to use. Parfaits don't really have simple shape so I'm not sure what else they could do. But heart shaped pastries are common enough to be recognizable to children. Maybe even sugar cookies. I think the heart would also fit her thematically, since she feels bad for the Recipeppis. I think they could've leaned into French cuisine like Parfait. Knowing her fruitcake inspo, I can forgive the skirt, but the dress is too wedding themed. Perhaps something more shapely and regal would've stood out

Ah yeah! I was thinking about taking some french inspo for a redesign I'm attempting, with Spicy looking more like an english maid and all. Hearts as a motif would be lovely too! Arches as a shape also came to mind, but that was purely based on her power-up veil, so hearts seems more interesting. I actually wanted to change the parfait inspo to a french galette crepe, since they can also be savoury aswell as sweet, and can be filled with fruits. Plus...a good excuse to make her purple. Tl;Dr ty for giving me more to think on!!! I'll work with it as best as I can, n I hope youre doing well!! o7

I fell in love with Cure Finale's design when it first came out and was having difficulty seeing what could improve. The inconsistent theme color was the only thing nagging me about it overall. Officially, the main color is gold with violet as the sub-color. Obviously, the violet is in her transformation sequence, but her overall design doesn't have that much gold or violet on it. If anything, I'd say Finale's theme color would really be white with rainbow as a sub-theme. That would be one thing I would change about her design if I had to.

Edit: I still claim myself as Narcistoru’s wife so he’s mine 😤❤️ I dunno, to me Spicy’s skirt always looked like a glass of beer. The cup shape of the skirt is obvious but the yellow underskirt with the white frills reminded me of a typical lager with the foam on top

One of my favorite base cure designs in the franchise. I personally love Cure Yum Yum is combo colors, yellow, green, orange and red. My least fav is Cure Finale tho. Her hair is so stiff. I also like Rosemary’s olive skin, with green eyes and purple hair combination but i also hate the C shaped patern in his t-shirt… makes no sense. My favorite fairy desing was also mem. So cute with his pointy teeth. I dislike cure Spicy’s Party up style super form. The sleeves are a no to me… and that belt looks so unbalanced there… I don’t like any villain design. They all look the same to me but shout out to Narcistoru for being hot. The movie forms… omg… no no. Finale… that Pudding skirt was certainly a choice… so ridiculous. 😭😭😭😭 I love Takumi’s design. Both civilian and Black Pepper. The Ubauzos were also very creative and are in my top 4 favorite monsters.

Every design related to cooking appliances was perfect! But I agree with your take on the villains. They're less distinct than usual. As for Rosemary, I get that they probably wanted C for Cookingdom but that's so silly😭who wears their country's initial on a shirt like that?

You really pinpointed what I was feeling about the design. I still think the themes could be cleaner. Less is more ad they say (if not for us for the sake of the animators!) Why two of the three have taste cure names but not the lead is strange to me. Spice having blue is probably what's throwing off the design cause you dont usually think of cool colors wjen you think of spice. She should be Cure Sweet instead, given Europe is more known for their pastries while yum yum be Spicy. And this is a nitpick, but I don't think the apton needed the two little bows. It could stand on its own. Edit: One more thing! Im not obsessed with Finale's designs. At all. But what I hate the MOST is that her pallete is rainboe/pastel but her official theme color is GOLD apparently. It's cure parfait all over again and I CANT STAND WHEN THE DO THAT.

Cure Finale has my least favorite design ever. I always found it annoying with how much mismatched color is. Especially when she was first leaked and it seemed like she would be a white themed cure. That would've made the team more unique, but we don't get that and Toei treats her as purple. When Toei confirmed that she was gold I just had the question "Why didn't they just make her simply gold?" It's not the worst design of all time. As a general character design it's alright. For Pretty Cure however it is very disappointing how much they messed up with Cure Finale.

White would of make sense since of wedding cakes and frosting, but they could of also labeled her as a rainbow cure with the fruits and parfait theme since there’s alot of colors that can’t be idenifty as just one

I think Finale's design would've been helped by having it be asymmetrical 🫠 It's so symmetrical that it makes it look *heavy* as a design, and not in a good way I know some people have problems with Cure Parfait's design but I think the asymmetry in hers really helped balance out how big some of the elements were, especially when it comes to the lower part of the dress and her head accessory Asymmetry in general makes a character design look a lot more dynamic and I think that's what was missing in Finale's design I can see how Finale's design is meant to mirror Precious' since Precious' design is also very symmetrical, while Spicy and Yum-Yum are asymmetrical, but Precious has her head accessory on one side, and Kome-Kome on the side of her waist also "unbalances" her design in a good way since it creates a point of interest, and Finale doesn't have any of that I think what could've helped is if Finale's dessert theme had either been pinned down on a fourth cultural cuisine, OR been a mix of the main trio's different cultural inspirations, and I think the latter would've been interesting as a way to tie into the narrative of the season with the whole "sharing food" thing

These are all great points. I can see how the symmetry bothered me now 😅 It gives her a very solid and stiff shape. I wish she had a bit more frill in the skirt to tie in the wedding theme. She could've been fully cake themed. As it stands, she's a mess of different ideas...

might be an unpopular opinion but i adore the food themed seasons so much both kira kira and delicious party 🥹 i wish in the future they’ll give us a beverage theme season next since we already gotten the dessert and savory sides of the food theme. i mean we already got cure lemonade and they can expand on that like they can give us cure soda, cure milkshake, cure mojito, or cure juice
