I remember driving through the picket line back in I think 1985 on the way to work at the pot noodle factory. Crazy times.

Hello Paul, Thanks for the video...Sorry for the fact that it took 8 years to see it... but lovely to see never the less. My personal interest is that "Tom Shorthouse" aka Tommy" or TJ...was my Father He was on shift when Field Marshall Montgomery visited the pit on his "drive through" in the Valleys and he said "you have one of my Boys down there" and Dad was duly sent for but as you know it takes a long time to get from the "Pit Face" to the top...so I don't think he actually made it in time to meet with "Monty" I have had photo's given me with Monty shaking hands with another pit worker but it wasn't my Dad...we have got photo's of Dad being presented with His MM by Monty but he was in Uniform then...and of course Dad never spoke much about his experiences but if anybody has photographic evidence I would like to see it...Thanks once again.

I drove a lorry carrying slurry out of the washery in the marine, in 76- 78- so sad to see the mines closed.

The sudden shock of the mine closures is almost unbelievable. Part of the complete abandonment of the Victorian industrial network of industries. Very sad.

Thank you Paul for the video, I have family from Tredegar that worked down the mines Frank Victor Wiltshire & his son Frank Graham Wiltshire, Also my wife's grandfather worked at Marine Colliery but sadly died down the mine in 5th Sept 1929, John Edgar Francis, Apparently there were a number of death's during the Colliery's life but if the death's were small they were not recorded, I have a couple of other names recorded on that date but not sure if they are connected with this mine, Although the death was at the mine was not recorded John Edgar Francis will always be remembered on our family tree, I wonder how many more had died over the years & not recorded, Rest in peace John.
