Whoa. Amazing story. I came looking for a video of the statue. I hope you lived a wonderful life.

It's a beautiful memorial; moving and incredibly impressive.... but one thing that strikes me whenever I drive past is that it should have been placed beside the main Crumlin to Abertillery road, looking down over the colliery site. It would have been like a Welsh version of the Angel of the North. It's really surprising how many people (even local people) don't even know it's there and the number of visitors and tourists who would remember it (and the area) forever, but who instead drive straight past must be huge. So many people would stop to take photographs, if only they knew what they were driving straight past.....

I was out walking from Blaenavon to Pontypool and I looked down in the valley to see this sculpture. Took a few minutes to realize what it was but prior to that I didn't know it existed. As observed above the location isn't very good which is a pity because it's an impressive sight once you've found it.
