It's all about getting it on tape when it goes down. A noisy take with feeling beats a perfectly recorded take every time. Keep catching that lighting in the bottle my dude!

Aha tips and knowledge come to the fore. I'm an old analogue dude but agree. And you know I'm going Hybrid...I'll get an asp 800 and the 688 and a patch bay to just quickly grab options ASP800 FET channel or ASP normal channels off the analogue pre amp and Tape or whatever combo off the tape into the DAW! This is great, and thanks again Chris. I found noise reduction on my 688 as being rubbish, and preferred it off. So this is Gold. I thank you for your honesty in not spruiking software that sucks. I uploaded my first video last week it's just a Jam for my "Jam No overdubs" Playlist...but it was straight to Ableton, off a Zoom HD8 But when the 688 is set up this is a fantastic pearl of wisdom!! And I notice you have Gregory Scott's Master Buss!! Guy is a total favorite of mine I got the Kush Sub. You loving the Bliss? I have the entire sub via direct debit but yet to try the Bliss. I'm trying to get balance as close to possible with each channel so Bus mixing is like a ting bit of salt and pepper at then end. Another Bomb Drop video for me.!!

Love the clariphonic it reminds my of the Audient ASP 800. Zoran my Russian Sound enginner dud is way behind so I am curating stuff mixing practicing getting used to Greg's various Omegas I like his Abbey Road on Vocals and Grungy Guitars, and the Novatron for fast Drums and Metal Lead and Thrash kinda riffs as it can be quick or slow attack and release. My plan is to get the asp800 the 8 track and a patch bay all into the daw any way I want. But this is a real game changer with Isotope the last link to uploading. Have a great Week Chris another truly brilliant Video!!😆

Thanks for this video, and all your great content! I own a 424 mkii, and love it in some respects. But the 3 main reasons I go back to digital recording are: 1. Hiss/noise. Your video here is very encouraging and I think this challenge can totally be overcome! 2. Dropouts! This is the biggie. Is there any Isotope plug-in that restores audio dips? A big ask, I know, but they address a lot of other issues I never thought possible. 3. I tend to do tons of takes. I worry that so much “RTZ-ing” and re-recording is reducing the audio quality on the tape, but I guess I’m not sure. Anyway, thanks again for this great video! I’m not yet going to trade my 424 for a Model 12. Still want to see if I can stay on the cassette medium and reap the benefits while mitigating the negatives. Thanks!
@MadeOnTape
@MadeOnTape 2 жыл бұрын
thanks for the kind words Sam! 1. yes i think if hiss bothers you it can be overcome without compromising quality 2. dropouts are tough. i’ve only ever had quick dropouts, and honestly i treat them like happy accidents. if i’m ever bothered too much by a dropout i re-record the track. (if i can’t remember what i played then i deem it not worthy of remembering anyway) 3. for this, if you’re worried, but can’t tell the difference, then don’t worry. I’ve re-recorded over the same track dozens of times at worst, and the final results didn’t bother me. nothing wrong with a Model 12! I’m planning on using the cassette to record just drums and / or drums and bass for a foundation of a modern mix in a DAW. hopefully people would be interested in seeing that process. thanks again, Sam!

Could u use a EQ , and pull some of the highs out ? Like 15 to 20k
@MadeOnTape
@MadeOnTape 2 жыл бұрын
that's a great question! Funny, when you look at the EQ of an analog recording like this one, there is almost NOTHING at 15 KHz, let alone 20. Also, tape hiss is somewhat similar to white noise and takes up a wide spectrum, which is why it was so annoying to people for so long. But, don't take my word for it. Try it out if you can! Thanks for watching and listening!

I would never record songs with one instrument to cassette tape. If you're recording uptempo fast aggressive, R&b, Rock, House or techno that does not have quiet passages, the cassette recorder will shine, but not on soft acoustic music..With a cassette, you kinda have to know what you can get away with, and what you can't. You need enough instruments to cover up the noise, without cluttering up the tune at the same time...

all depends on the vibe you’re after but valid point!
@SeeSawMassacre
@SeeSawMassacre 2 жыл бұрын
There's some truth to this, but i just recorded a very quiet cigar box guitar, and vocals onto type 1 cassette, and it sounds great. As long as you hit the tape with a nice loud signal (i just go as loud as i can before it starts to get too compressed or distorted), the noise level is completely tolerable. And as our humble guide says, it does all depend on the vibe. I love the album "Reason to Live" that Lou Barlow put out, i think last year, and it was made on cassette and is mostly acoustic and pretty bare. He's known as a "pioneer" of "lo-fi", i guess. I highly recommend it.
