BMW M2 - The Last 'Real' M Car

As an owner of many BMW's in the past 15 years, I have found what I think is the perfect single car. If somebody can afford to run, and has space for multiple cars, then of course there are much better cars to do individual tasks, but as a one car only vehicle, the M2 is in my opinion, the very best. I am talking about the original 2016 M2, although the LCI is even better. The car is still quite a reasonable small size, ok it's not an Elise, but compared to other sporty coupes you can still feel like it fits on twisty country roads. I know BMW fans will shout about the 1M and it's hydraulic steering, but the M2 electric rack still has great steering feel allowing you to place it exactly on the road where you wish, and it does have very good feedback from the road surface. almost as good as a hydraulic rack, and certainly better than many other modern 'sporty' cars. The damping and suspension parts are very well designed and balanced, the ride is firm but still not back-breaking and allows some comfort too. The engine might not be quite as good as the B58, but in it's own way it is very good and has enough power to feel quick, plenty fast enough to exploit the cars dynamic capabilities. It's surprisingly practical too, with a large boot, and rear seats which are not totally useless like some coupes. On top of all that, just look at it. The OG M2 is simply perfect, and peak BMW coupe design. The swept back lights and front vents on the bumper, the bulging wheel arches, and beautiful rear end, I genuinely think it is one of the best looking cars ever made, and proportionally just perfect.

I just recently purchased an 2018 LCI m2 with 6spd and couldn’t be happier. I drove the m2c back to back and just preferred the og. The LCI was the nice in between because it had all the styling updates on the exterior and interior minus the seats and grill.

Editor Note: At 1:13 I was meant to say “mid-2010s.” Obviously, the F87 M2 drives very different to a ‘2000s’ M car - and if this was what you instead wanted, we’d recommend the E46 or E90/2 M3s 👌🏼

Looks good mate I think the LCI is the sweet spot personally You can also retrofit the proper M seats into them 👍 I'm still on the fence with the G87, it's mainly the rear lego block bumper that's hard to get over

4:53 Bro it is unreal how good the F87 still looks to this date. Look at this stock for stock comparison and the G87 can’t hold a candle to this. The proportions, the dynamic lineflow, the shapes it’s so heartbreaking to see what BMW made out of one of the best modern era drivers cars. The difference gets even bigger with the Competition and CS models with their a little bit shaper design. That right there was a good facelift, besides the ugly muffler. But you can’t go wrong with any F87. Get a good cared after example while you can and keep it. In ten years it will be gold like E46 M3, 1M, E92 M3 etc etc…

"I promise you, it does look good." I respect the fact that YOU and others may find that it looks good, but looks are subjective, and as an F87 owner, I find the G87 to be absolutely butt-ugly,, and could never possibly own one myself.

I agree, the F87 is definitely the better-looking of the two 👌🏼 The new G87 M2 is possibly the best-looking of brand new BMWs; just look at what they're doing with cars like the new 7 Series, iX etc...

Hopefully the G87 takes a huge depreciation hit soon I'd probably be keen when they dip under 100K

@@Anko88888 Do you honestly believe that? You're kidding yourself All BMWs take a bad depreciation it's just a matter of when not if Also this is one of the most polarising body designs The majority of the community hate it

@ArtVandelayOfficial BMWs have always been polarising in design when new - consider the Bangle era of 20 years ago. Regardless of design, desirable models hold their value extremely well - look at the E36 M3 or any E30 for example. The original F87 M2 has barely depreciated in recent years, and as the last petrol-only powered M car ever, its unlikely the G87 will lose much value either.
