If you put the Airpods Max on Transparency Mode you'll hear everything and you'll be aware of your surroundings, even with music on, I do that every time I'm walking on the street, even when I go to the supermarket I leave the AirPods on with the Transparency Mode and I can hear the cashier really well, sometimes even better than without them lol.

I use my Apple air pods instead of headphones for that same reason, you can leave music in one ear and still hear with the other ear with no earbud in it. Definitely safer xxx

Just a suggestion why don’t you just wear one air pod and swap them each day so both get used. E.g one day left, next day right. I think it is better to be aware. On the news recently a boy died because he had both heads phones in and wasn’t aware of the danger. I also do this now myself, sorry to sound so mobid, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. p.s so sorry you had to experience that. Xxx
