It is surprising to find out that not owning things like a TV, CD/DVD player, Dryer, a house (so so much cheaper to rent), car (😀my brother let us use his extra car), single use containers, many furniture and kitchen items that we found we.dont need(sold most of them)..and having a capsule wardrobe...reduces so much stress and time wasted also has reduced our debt so much that it leaves us only what we need and that which is meaningful for our life.

Hi...I am from Malaysia...When my husband and I lost mostly everything during the covid pandemic, we had to decide how start again...we decided to only buy or bring into our life what we need....your videos helped me so much. Looking back, it made me realise we actually don't need many things to make our home and day to day living more fullfilling and happy. Thank you.

Shaving cream was one of my biggest things I quit buying a long time ago, it's such a gimmick! Shaving with a bar of soap works just fine for me 😊

I have trouble only shaving with the bar soap just… sensitive skin or something. But I use my hair conditioner and it works great. It’s slightly thicker and I buy it anyway for my hair and I use so much less compared to my shampoo so it’s like… why not. But it was a switch I made when I was like 14 and it’s been grand for the last 16 years haha.

As for buying journals, notebooks, scrapbooks or sketchbooks, I started making my own. It's SO much fun and REALLY easy, yet it takes a little time so you think more about it if you REALLY need one, finding the time to make it will give it all so much more value. Just get your favorite paper, and some hard fabric or old leather. Cut the fabric to size, fold about 50 papers dubble, make stacks of 10 papers per bundle and sew them in. It's really awesome, fun and unique.

Apparently you can use natural elements like dry apricot seeds and other natural materials in your washing machine, though I'm not an expert on this. They are reusable and cost almost nothing. Even the more expensive natural seed products that you can buy are a much more healthy alternative to cleaning products that contain microplastics and other harmful ingredients.

I WISH my husband would be on board with getting rid of our tvs. He would watch tv all day and the same movies on repeat lol and I find it such a waste of time. Your videos are so eye opening and I long to live a minimalist slow lifestyle with my family and I’m praying it will happen.

To his credit, he most likely watches it to relax, or as a habit and probably because he doesn't have any (easy) alternative that he likes to spend time on. Maybe if he has a hobby that he enjoys, like making music, or building things in the garage, he will use less time watching TV. You could also suggest that he maybe picks the things he really loves to watch and focus on those things, but cut down on the rest which is for sure a waste of time. Like for example watching sports with friends, which I believe is a valuable way to bond with male friends, or a great movie that you both enjoy. Try keeping a positive outlook and make the changes you want, maybe it might inspire him, or maybe he needs more time, but at least you are taking good steps.

When I walked the camino in Spain I lived with just a backpack and whatever I could carry. Those were some of the best days of my life and made me realize how little stuff I really actually need. Actually some of the things I believed were “essential” I left along the way because they weren’t worth the weight.

I could never get rid of my journals! What’s really the point of writing in them, only to toss them away? My father passed away recently, and now I find it so comforting to go back and read entries of times that I spent with him. I also cherish entries where my kids did or said something funny. It’s the little bits that usually doesn’t stand out in your memories, but when you read about them, it immediately brings back nostalgia and makes you go, “oh yeah, I totally forgot about that!”

I use 1 laundry detergent, and also one cleaning product for the whole house, which is so great it’s crazy when I think about it now that I used to buy and have like 10 different bottles of things that you don’t even need. but I got rid of all the others as well and don’t purchase them anymore, plus a lot more! What do you use instead of bodywash? Bar soap? I'm genuinely curious because the amount of space it takes up, is really annoying. And my husband, I love him, but he has prepper tendencies and will buy 4 things of bodywash at a time, to have they stocked up. I would really love to simplify it, if nothing else, just for me.

I use on cleaner supply for my house. we do have a tv and we don't watch it really the kids play sometimes for few minutes, and we rent them from the library. I need to do better on mugs and ready to downsize on that too. I don't have a lot of clothes I keep it simple. I like the suggestions on plain t-shirt I did it this year and I love it a lot. Most of the things that you named are luxuries I wish I could afford from time to time. I just bought an exercise equipment that isn't assembled yet. It's OK because it folds up and can be stored in a closet easily. I wouldn't keep kids products either. But i would keep desirable stuffed animals and tablets. Those are like childhood warm memories and tablets seem to be a commodity, so I wold keep those. Probably put two or three out in the living room areas and gyesterday bedrooms as entertainment devices for guests. Seems like a good idea.

I can completely relate to you mentioning a lot of the list are luxury items. One of the positive benefits of being more minimalist is spending way less unneeded money. For me it wasn't by choice that I bought less and try being creative, it was a necessity. Nearly everything I earn is going into food and other necessities. I do not wish to spend less on food, as it is one of the most important reasons of being healthy. (and happy)

Some common stuff people have that I never buy or don't own: 1. TV, haven't owned one for over 10 years now. Never missed it. 2. A car. I go everywhere by foot, bike or public transport if I need to go far. 3. New clothes or shoes. We use 95% secondhand clothes of good quality, the remaining 5% is selfmade stuff. 4. New phones. I bought a single smartphone to use for work, it is at my house and never leaves it. I carry an old flipphone on me. 5. Subscriptions to anything. What I do buy or own: 1. Quality food, I eat like a king most of the time. 2. I own a good amount of quality ABS plastic and metal collectables that I am happy to have 3. About 1 closet full of boardgames. 4. Our home has a lot of plants, books and a collection of cat themed stuff. 5. Basic hygiene products only, 1 natural deodorant, tooth paste and some basic soap / wash product, nothing else. Could make a longer list, as we do have a lot of stuff at our home, but I'm not much of a minimalist in that way (yet). I do believe strongly in the power of owning things, as long as it makes us happy or is useful. For american standards, I am very poor, but I have a rich life, with great food, lots of friends and a very comforting home. Also, please don't throw away your toaster if you like toast. Isn't the point of this that you choose your own path? It might very well be a path with toast in it. ;)

I’ve come across them before when decluttering ( even once again 2 days ago ) and still keep em. BYE ! They are going into recycling right after I finish commenting. Happily, I did ditch my old journals like ten yrs back. I have a donation bag by my door thatz goin out today. Earlier today I gathered extra glasses / bowls for it. Already has clothes & more in it. Making progress and MORE still needs to go ! Like DVDs - even tho I purged most ages ago, & ALL of the old schl video tapes ( VHS? Is that what they were called? ) ages ago. But still have a handful of dvds. WHY ? I still stubbornly hang on to books & CDs tho ( I’m 62 … from a different era haha!) but I’m proud to say I’ve been faithfully chipping away @ that, too. Oh my gosh! Birthday card guilt!! Why is it so hard. I don’t give birthday or any kind of card anymore. I dont want to impart that guilt, and then the random cost of a piece of paper to be thrown away….. thats a whole other thing.

i think you should have hard copies of your photos .. at least a few that are very important to you -- if they ever take the grid down.. an EMP, cyber-warfare, etc..

Love the stasher bag option! I need to jump on this wagon! Having 3 kids and a husband that packs his lunch I just know they will accidentally be thrown away!😕
@faeriesmak

I tried and my kids threw them away. They were all gone within the first week of having them. I started wrapping their sandwiches in wax paper and taping that shut with a piece of paper making tape instead.

@@faeriesmak good idea. Or is there such a thing as biodegradable parchment paper?
@faeriesmak
@faeriesmak 3 жыл бұрын
@@sararose9664 I find that tape doesn't stick to parchment paper so it is hard to get your item to stay sealed in there.
