I had this on VHS too and the standout was an early version of 'Sun & (The) Rain' which had a slightly different arrangement and lyrics compared to the recorded one. It was a really odd period for the band, as Rise & Fall - Their best album IMO - only just dented the top ten and were moving faster than some of the fans could accept, which was - and is - always the way to go. Once your fans dictate your output, you're toast.

Thank you, yeah i`ve got that footage too of `The Sun & The Rain`, which as you correctly stated was an early version of that song. Good points you made here.

Hi Dave. I`m not too bad thanks. Hope you`re well too. Yeah, I didn`t think many would have seen this, although as you told me, you were lucky enough to have seen them on this UK tour, in Brighton, march 1983,a month after this was filmed. You lucky fella !! :o)

+MrNuttylee7 from what I can remember it was a great gig! Found one piece of footage on here from the concert, Elvis Costello came on and sung tomorrow's just another day... Shame that's all I can find!

For this appearance on The Tube they played Our House, Tomorrows Dream & It Must Be Love. Our House is here kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqLWmJSYnLmBldE I did upload the It Must Be Love performance on here, but due to confusing & frustrating copyright issues they blocked the video in this country ?!?!

MrNuttylee7 They also played primrose hill,tomorrow's gust another day and the sun & the rain. Being the laters debut performance of said song. I have also Been told that they played Grey day and one other song after the live broadcast had finished.

If only they were as tight live now as they were back in 1983. This to me was when the lads were at the top of their game. I saw them live on TV a week or so ago at Hyde park,truly awful to say the least. Suggs murdered every song from start to finish. Forgetting words ,rolling Rs at every opportunity and singing completely out of tune. I get no pleasure from saying that as I've been a big fan of madness for years. Time to knock it on the head I think?.

Yeah, agreed, they were at their best live 1981-83, but I am glad they are still going. Age has slowed them a bit, but they are still enjoying themselves & producing good songs. I hate the way Suggs rolls his R`s and keeps reading the lyrics off his screen on the floor in front of him, and I wish they would get rid of the horn section and drop the occasional backing track, but other than that I still get a lot of pleasure from seeing the guys performing live. I do understand where you are coming from though.

MrNuttylee7 The 3 backing singers that they had for the 1985 mad not mad tour was the most bizarre thing I think they ever done?. Mark Bedford used to do a lovely bit of bass filler on my girl on that tour. I wish he would put that back in now. Is there any explanation why they have not played cardiac arrest live since 1981?
@MrNuttylee78 жыл бұрын
Yeah the 3 backing singers & the guy that played all the percussion were a very unusual step. But I think they knew they were nearing the end of the band & they were losing interest in everything, so perhaps this was an attempt to make performing live different & refreshing for themselves. Yep, Marks bass on My Girl was terrific on that tour. As for Cardiac Arrest, well I think that is one of their greatest songs, but since shitty Radio 1 refused to play it back then, I wonder if it is because it never reached as wide an audience as all the other singles. Madness do seem to pick their set list to cater to the hit singles fans. And that is another peeve of mine, change the set list & play loads of old b sides & album tracks. But as I said I am just glad that my all time favourite band are still going & very importantly enjoying what they do.

This is from the tv show The Tube back in 1983. I`ve changed the title now just in case people don`t read my description.
