Take that ageism!! Once again Madonna have set the gold standard for what Super Bowl halftime shows should be: epic, spectacular and jaw-dropping. She brought her vision and artistry (honed by decades of staging grand concerts) into every aspect of this production-from conceptualization, planning, assembling technical staff and supporting performers, costume, choreography, track list selection, themes, and state-of-the-art audio, visual and staging technology, days of grueling practice and more. As one Madonna fan commented on social media when this video first came out: the unmistakable analogy of when Cleopatra (from the 1963 movie starring Elizabeth Taylor), as a vassal Queen of Egypt and guest of Julius Caesar, entered Rome for the first time in a grand style right into the heart of Roman imperial power before a skeptical Roman citizenry, quite unsure of what to make of her, and now here’s Madonna, the Queen of Pop Music, in similar majestic fashion, entering the Super Bowl arena-the bastion of male chauvinism and sports (akin to the old Roman gladiatorial spectacles) and where many in the football audience perhaps were not quite sure what to make of Madonna and her show. From most reports, she came, she saw and she conquered.

She certainly set a new standard for Super Bowl halftime shows. I understand more people tuned in for the show than watched the actual game. The spectacle and her performance (in very high heels and with an injured ankle) were impeccable, and she didn't cede the stage to another performer (other than in a supporting role) like other performers have done. Halftime shows are very difficult to pull off, so many artists will have others perform with them to carry some of the burden, but in Madonna's case, it was all eyes on her throughout. I also appreciated the messaging of the show: a shout-out to the lgbtq community (w/ 'Vogue'), and a unifying message of love and peace (w/'Music' and 'Like a Prayer'). I think Super Bowl shows -- especially on the level of production and staging -- have gotten better since her show. Thank you, Psyche! You were wowed just as we were when we saw it in real-time!

Madonna has the best taste when it comes to her shows, she doesn't use fireworks (I guess because it's cheap and doesn't add anything new, even though I like them), she doesn't use fake audience (that's true respect for the real audience, instead she got tons of performers, these dancers are Cirque Du Solei), her stage was massive (with moving platforms, screens all over the floor and the ones on the field where new technology for the event), she did a show for all ages and let each song play (unlike all the rushed shows recently), haltime shows became popular again after her, and finally her team was doing 2 shows at the same time: one for the live audience and another for TV/Streaming so the camera couldn't capture everything that was happening (today shows only focus on looking fine for the cameras). And that's why Madonna's show was the best one, she's a true performer and always exceeds herself. Learn from the top touring artist, wannabes

If you ever have the opportunity, you might want to see Madonna on her next tour. Just be prepared that she sometimes starts the show very late lol

Since I've seen this many times before, it was so much watching you while you saw it for the first time. She really is masterful in putting a show together, many do it well but she's just the queen of it, perhaps because she really started and revolutionized the live shows to begin with and over the years she's become even more ambitious as technology has provided tools for her to create pretty much whatever stage wise as well. She's so meticulous with it and nothing gets passed her, she is incredibly hands on when it comes to every single detail and everything is timed to perfection. Even the simplest movements, like the sound when she bends a dancer's leg, is timed to add something to the performance. It takes a lot of effort to bring all those elements together so she is not the highest grossing touring act for no reason. While she may have pre-recorded vocals here and there, it's not like she doesn't sing live (and it's not like she is the only one who has pre-recorded backing tracks, just about everybody has them) and if there are pre-recorded bits they are usually there to make room for all the complicated elements in her show. Here a bit of her vocals were pre-recorded, simply due to the aspect of complicated choreography, a lot of people involved, plus a very limited time frame to put it all up and then take it all down. One could have done it completely live if it was a hell of a lot simpler performance, but this wasn't the case here. You have to marvel at her energy and dedication, what a piece of work it was to put this performance together as they have so little time to rehearse, get it all up, perform and get off the stadium. The other woman besides Nicky Minaj, during Give Me All Your Luvin' was MIA (the one who flipped the finger at the end of her verse). Flipping the finger wasn't part of the agreed choreography and since it was live television, it of course created controversy as Super Bowl is like going to church in the US. The have obviously tried to block it from showing here as there was a second of blur placed on the footage but funny enough they missed it just a second so it still shows (lol). Madonna wasn't happy about the finger flipping either (even if she does it in her own shows when she feels like it) as it wasn't the energy she wanted to bring to the stage that day. She has a great eye in regards to what songs or acts to fuse her own music with, when she incorporates elements from someone else's songs they are seamlessly executed to give something new to the performance. Like the whole I'm sexy and I know it bit. Of course there was Cee Lo Green dueting on Like A Prayer with her here as well. Plus tons and tons of extras. I don't know the name of the guy who jumped on the rope but I think it's one of the dancers who worked on her MDNA tour. Anyway, she always puts on a show and this occasion was special to her as it is such a big undertaking and a great honor since not everybody gets to perform at the Super Bowl. But knowing her perfectionism, although she said she was happy with the performance, I know she'd cringe at that one misstep she took as she was stepping on the railing, during Music. I just know she would.

I've been watching your Madonna reaction videos for a while now as I am a huge Madonna fan and I just have to say i love your insights. And yes this was an amazing performance. I've been lucky enough to see Madonna live 5 times now, at different stages of her career (Whos That Girl Tour, Blond Ambition tour, Drowned World Tour, Reinvention Tour and the Cinfessions Tour) and yes every show sends the adrenaline racing and yes, there is a huge come down afterwards where you feel a bit lost! I would have loved to have seen the Madame X theatre shows but sadly the tickets were beyond my price range. People can criticise but she changed the music industry and paved the way for so many artists. A ground breaking performer and activist throughout her career, she is still breaking barriers now. It was a joy watching you observe her performance. When you go back, you'll notice Madonna introduces a new 'wow' factor into the game about every 20 sec (except during the Give Me All Your Luvin which had not been released at the time). I remember watching a documentary about Kieslowski, a European film director, who explained that the exact number of seconds that the film audience could watch a sugar cube soak in coffee (a scene in one of his films) was 8 second, not one second less or more. This is about the production value that Madonna put into this gig.

Thank you Psyche🙏❤️ I remember being so excited and nervous leading up to this incredible performance. She crammed so much into twelve minutes and all with her signature style. First of all she looked just incredible, stunning I think. And each part has a slightly different costume change/addition just like her concerts. In fact this was basically a Madonna concert that had a football game intro 😂 And then there’s her sick dance moves. At 53 she was still Queen of the squat thrust 😱 unbelievable. Acrobatics on the bleachers- just amazing. Loved the set list too. I mean really if she had just performed Vogue I would have been happy 😂 her royal look during that just set the tone. Like a Prayer was awesome The choir, CeeLo Green I mean omg. Then she disappears into a cloud of smoke 💨 I’ve watched this so many times and I never get tired of it. Awesome reaction 👏👏
