If you compare Madonna's vocal ability to singers like Whitney, Mariah, Celine, etc., obviously she's not in the same category. But not every artist needs to be. Madonna has an ability to convey emotion in her voice, so while she while she might not have the range or power of what most people would consider a "great vocalist," she's a good singer. And more than that, a singer/*songwriter* (there's a reason she's able to convey so much feeling in her songs, especially her ballads - because it's from the heart). I've heard artists most would consider "better" singers than Madonna cover her songs and they just pale in comparison. Madonna has the "X" factor. It's intangible.

Yes..what sets Madonna apart and dwarfs the artistic output of other female singers with more technically gifted vocal ability is her prolific songwriting and longevity that produced a vast catalogue of discography and videography. Whitney Houston is gone, Celine is retired, and Mariah (age 54) is still around..but barely. I’d like to see Taylor Swift do live tours when she turns 65 and compare it to Madonna’s current Celebration World Tour.

Her vocals were on point here. It's so fun to see you two vibing along to this song and praising her voice! In the 90s she was not known as a "great singer" because everyone focused on the sexual aspect of her work. Love that she's getting the recognition she deserves now

One of many highlights on the Celebration tour, simple and pure. People say she can't sing, but her voice is so vulnerable and human with a lot of emotion, which you love or not. No she's not Barbra, Mariah or Whitney, she is Madonna. People just love to hate on her since her early years, I don't know why. Maybe because she is such a strong character who doesn't care what anyone says. I love this woman.

Hard to believe this is 30 years old 😱 I love the totally stripped down performance- just her stellar vocals for the SNL audience broadcast live. She hit every high and low - but really I’ve always loved her low tones. The woman can do anything 💯❤️

Madonna has an incredible ability to gave us, listeners, tons of emotions through her Voice. Madonna sings with passion, and you can feel everything. We love Madonna dancing and singing but, its also incredible this Madonna, sitting on a chair, singing through your HEART and MIND. BAD GIRL is very special for me, in a way I identify with the song.

Nobody has a voice like Madonnas. Its very distinctive. Imo its very calming. It's really hard for other singers to sing her song's. The only person that has even come close is Miley. Everyone else ruins her songs by trying to belt or do runs. I absolutely LOVE Madonnas voice.😍

The official extended remix of Bad Girl is phenomenal. They added an extra layer to the sound which deepens the song. Love the haunting string that was added to it! I wish this version was edited down for the single release.

Madonna’s vocals here are beautiful. Emily’s comments about eating the CD stand. I guess I was wrong, she doesn’t just stand there, she sits. She does another performance on this episode of SNL, which is also the next song to review. It’s Fever. You might get more request for this. This is the only performance outside of a concert tour that I know of. It’s also stripped down, in it’s basic form….. the complete opposite of the video. Perhaps have it ready 😆 Will we have another post before the holidays? Perhaps you could do a review of Madonna’s Christmas song…. Santa Baby. 🎅🏻 Ty for an awesome review. I believe it's because of how huge she became worldwide, and even became the best-selling female musical recording artist in history. When you have commanded that much attention, there will always be the naysayers. A lot of female singers have had great careers, but you never hear those that pick apart their octave range like with her. She has shown over and over for decades that she is an extremely talented vocalist, but I guess because of who she is she will always be criticized in some way or another.

I love watching you ladies reaction to Madonna. I to have never ever understood the critiques of her voice. She has an amazing voice. There is not a performer out there today, or in the past that can come anywhere close to her live performances. Her energy is mind boggling. I would love to see your reactions to the whole reinvention tour ( some real gems in that tour as well as Drownd World Tour and Confessions. Your mind will be blown. You really need to see these before your Celebration concert ! So excited for you two. I saw her twice . Las Vegas 2000 for Drownd World and in Denver 2007 Sticky and Sweet Tour . Best concerts of my life.

She felt the song definitely! Everyone who hears Bad Girl seems to love it. Such a shame it wasnt really played back then because the media decided Madonna ''had gone too far and was over''. She got the last laugh though, still selling out arenas 30 years later. Love the band here too. I love the album/ radio version but i think the live version with her live vocals is even more intense. I love everything about Bad Girl, song, lyrics, video, live performances. So underrated.

The stage setup is very minimal, and it works greatly with the lights and the content of the song. They’re doing a deep dive Madonna journey in chronological order: single releases with official music videos of her albums, coupled with live versions as voted for by viewers, some selected interviews, docufilms; then a reaction on the concert tour covering the album(s). To date: they plan to react to 2 remaining singles/videos from Erotica: Fever and Rain. Then they’ll cover the 1993 Girlie Show tour. Then on to 1994 Bedtime Stories; then the 1995 Something To Remember ballads compilation album (they’ll cover only the new songs/videos); then the 1996 Evita era; and then the watershed 1998 Ray Of Light era; followed by the 2000 Music album; then the 2001 Drowned World tour--and so forth. They’re not jumping from one song/album/concert/era to another out-of-sequence as other reactors do ‘cause they want to see and appreciate the evolution of her artistry through time. For now, they’re only focusing on Madonna. This approach is unique and so timely as a retrospective for many of us Madonna admirers in the light of her current Celebration World Tour. Madonna always accustomed us to dazzling shows, so at first this performance falls a bit flat for me, although then you appreciate that it is an intimate performance in which the attention is focused on the lyrics of the song and the feeling with which Madonna acts, and it's a great performance. I am so excited for the next two songs/videos, but please do react to the song/video for “I’ll Remember”, it’s from the movie (With Honors-1994) another delicious ballad.😊❤ OH, lastly, as for why people criticize her vocals is one, she was criticized so much in the 80’s & 90’s, and from then on, when people want to throw shade, that is their go to insult. Even other females like Cher ( of all people) went on a talk show and said, she wasn’t talented & wasn’t beautiful and then called her a c@nt to boot.

Fever sure deserved a better video. But visually fever video is great ! Of course the Girly Show Fever version is Madonna at her best!
