Borderline is just one of those special songs. You are right everyone loved that song. It was all over the radio on every station.. I was just a little kid when Borderline on the radio and I asked my mom "Who is the person singing this song" ! It was just that good back then and it still is today.

I was watching a documentary on her recently and they said they marketed her with no picture because they wanted people to think she was black when she first came out. There was no pic on her first cover. She was just phenomenal.

I can certainly top all the comments by saying that I actually was in downtown L.A. below the bridge right off Temple and underneath got to see the whole taping and rehearsing video back in the early part of 1983 right before I joined the Navy and what a blast it was for me since I actually got to remind Madonna that we had actually used to see each other in the N.Y. clubs and we would all make room for her on the dancefloors out there and it was mesmerizing and utterly fantastic.

Another banger remix as always, Groovefunkel! This was the first Madonna song I heard as a kid, and it's always been my favorite. It reminds me of summer. I had no idea that Gwen Guthrie did backing vocals on this song! I recently found out about her and her hit "Ain't Nuthin' Goin' on but the Rent" through YT (though I first heard of the song title reference in Eddie Murphy Raw decades ago). You should do Stephanie Mills' "Never knew love like this Before" as your next remix. Both that song and "Borderline" have great opening melodies.

Greetings Mr. Groovefunkel, let me start here by saying that I have been listening to many of your mixes here on KZbin and I must say, I am very impressed and taken by your great work with the multitracks! The way you are able to manipulate the vocals and/or the instruments sequences is truly impeccable, and the sound quality is pure bliss! Whatever equipment you use, it is top notch! I can’t even name just one favorite of your mixes since there are so many, but I will tell you that I absolutely love how you added an unknown verse to “When Will I See You Again” by The Three Degrees that you released three years ago. The verse is: “Come on and do it to me one more time, yeah, come on, come on/Gotta have ya baby, come on, come on./My sweet love of mine (yeah), one more time/Just one more time/Sweet fine thing.” I have never heard that verse until now! This is definitely a keeper for my music collection, one of my many favorite Philly jams that was written and produced by the Philly dynamic duo of Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, who made Philadelphia International Records possible. WOW this is an excellent reworking!! I loved Madonna’s collaborations with the late great Reggie Lucas: “Borderline” and “Physical Attraction” - my favorite Madonna song. The single 7” mix of “Borderline” is the best version released IMO but it’s not available on any streaming platforms unfortunately. You took the instrumentation that was maybe too pronounced and literal in the single remix and blended it perfectly here for the verses and bridge. On the other hand, the version of “Borderline” on “The Immaculate Collection” turns this instrumentation down too much 😒 and the entire mix is so filtered that it’s almost unrecognizable. Job well done sir 👏 ❤

Glad you enjoyed! The Immaculate Collection version was just horrible IMO. As I recall, they used some new tech called "Q-Sound," which was supposed to create a faux 360° feel. It was so over the top and overly mixed.

@@groovefunkel 🎯 I agree totally. I enjoyed the Q-sound versions of the “True Blue” singles and felt they were an improvement. I like the version of “Holiday” on Immaculate Collection which has a sort of trippy, psychedelic feel to it - very different from the LP version but a nice refresh which still holds up today.
