1 year ago today, Madame X debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 with 95,000 sold just in the US. It marked her 9th #1 album. Imagine being in your 60’s and in your 4th decade in your career and releasing your 14th album and releasing highly experimental album ....and still debuting at number 1. Queen of pop still doing numbers
@ricobhi4 жыл бұрын
The funny thing is, I would imagine that she isn't thinking about her age or those numbers. Most people who are 60 don't think oh wow I'm 60 let me do something so it'll be great in the 4th decade of my career. Maybe, but I don't know because I'm not 60. 😊 She's doing what she's always done and being who she's always been. And hopefully, some of us are still listening to her message and still fighting for what's right. More than the accolades, it's noteworthy that, after 37 years, she still is trying to teach the same lessons and so many still haven't learned.

@@Deedee-ee1sg Well…you probably know she’s not surrounded by an army of communicants the way she used to be. That was HER choice. She’s also decided to stop giving concerts in stadiums and arenas. She said from now on she wanted human contacts. It’s the reason why her latest MADAME X tour took so long : she picked up small theaters and therefore had to remain longer in each city. The reason I’m telling you this is because the theater she chose to sing in in Paris is located at a 5 minute walking distance from where I live. Before she arrived, I would tell to myself every single day : “Wow ! During 10 days, Madonna will be 5 minutes away from my place !”. Unfortunately, you probably heard the she had serious health issues back then (knee and hip badly injured). She has to stop her tour on her second night in Paris. I will ALWAYS remember that night. It was last year, Feb 27… and I was there. She arrived with a 2H30min delay. She started singing…and 10 minutes later she had to stop. It was not pain she was feeling : it was sheer agony. And you know what : she was suffering so much she couldn’t stop crying. She grabbed her mike and said : “The Madonna you’ve always known would have made jokes about this. I’m so sorry, but I just can’t”. It was so moving to see her so close to us we could feel her. We all stood up and gave her a 10 minute standing ovation. Many of us were actually crying as well. @Tyl Jet I think I get it. Is like... where you want to go with all that, right?
@andrewhussey45385 жыл бұрын
@Tyl Jet as opposed to stagnation? Pushing boundaries is one of the fundamental things art is meant to do, like Nietzsche said "what good is a book that does not go beyond all books?"
@andrewhussey45385 жыл бұрын
@Tyl Jet It ISN'T logic...that's the point, this is art, not logic...I'm unsure how pro-pedophilia groups are relevant...*shrug* they can make the art they want so long as it's legal, no one is suggesting something sloppy like just barfing out something because it's subversive, the entire history of art has been about the back and forth push of the artist and social norms, that's the whole point...there's good reason people who adeptly PUSH that boundary (and not sloppily just ignore it and wind up in jail) are lauded...it's why the works of people like the Marquis Du Sade or Vladimir Nabokov are decades and centuries later seminal and influential works of art and the output of the people who couldn't deftly push social mores and wound up being killed or just having their work straight up destroyed are no longer here...the skill and the art is in pushing, not ignoring...
@andrewhussey45385 жыл бұрын
@Tyl Jet I'm trying to think of a solid example...let's say something like subversive cinema, one can say something and push the boundaries of propriety, an example might be the French New Extremity scene, a film like the original Martyrs by Pascal Laugier...completely horrific, unpleasant film to watch, you come out of it feeling like you need a shower but it's using that to say something, there's a REASON it wants the viewer to feel like they're being violated while watching it. Compare that to the later Goetz brothers remake of the same film, it hits the marks basically the same but the intent and flourish of the original is lost in the process. You end up with something akin to a photocopy of the mona lisa, it's the same image but the brush strokes, the flavor of the original is neutered, indeed, it's the fact that it DOESN'T make you supremely uncomfortable watching it that makes it lose the power of the original work of art...I'm not sure if I'm making sense lol...There is art of course that isn't subversive, but it is helpful in making people take notice, and there are many, many messages that simply can't be told by a safe work of art. The artist always need be willing to push those edges if their intent is to tell those stories or convey those messages, and must be able to do it in such a way that they aren't simply ending up with a work that no one can see because it's been banned or destroyed...that balance is a skill all it's own.

Taking into account the past and current situation in the US, with crime rates skyrocketing, and the number of killings on the rise - Madonna has nailed it. Not only is this pure art, but it also represents a call for action, something that artists such as herself can see, and turn into art. As we're very much aware, this topic, unfortunately, represents as well a part of American daily life. Politicians and presidents, and numerous others never have and never will do anything similar. Madonna is more than relevant, and represents a league of her own, and cannot even be compared with other artists. Madonna's lyrics hit the spot, not has she done so in this song alone, but in numerous others. Applauding to you in the first place, because it all starts with you, and your ideas. Hit it, Madonna!!! And Hit it HARD ;)

Also, our government will never shut down the NFA because of more than a few reasons. First, they will loose A LOT of funding and all the money they get donated to them by the NFA, gods forbid our gov does one thing that ISNT corrupt bc of money. 2nd they absolutely will not change the 2nd amendment ever. The list keeps going my friends however, I am completely against the travesties and traumas and losses due to fucking psychopaths killing innocent children and people because of the lack of gun control BUT as a single mother that was almost killed by 3 men while walking to the subway on my way home from work, and when I say almost killed I mean I absolutely should be dead right now and doctors don’t even know how I survived the shear brutality of what was done to me, if I was legally allowed a permit to carry for protection for living in a city where innocent people die on a daily basis in just my neighborhood alone, I would have been able to protect myself that night and wouldn’t have had my entire life ripped away from me due to all the disabilities I now have as a direct result of the attempt on my life. So as much as my soul shatters for senseless crimes like these I still think people like myself that still have common sense and humanity intact should be able to protect myself and my son from the fucking psychopaths that commit these horrific crimes to begin with. It’s all just so fucked up and getting worse. What they need to do is extensive MEDICAL records checked for people who have any history of violent mental illness along with the criminal background checks. Unfortunately no matter what we do to try to prevent these things from happening, they are still gunna continue to happen. Why, because way more than half of humanity is beyond fucked up in the head and that will never change. Unfortunate truth. “ I am NO LONGER accepting the things I cannot change. I AM CHANGING the things I CANNOT ACCEPT “ Perfectly put. Love that quote.

She has vision. At every stage shes 12 steps ahead of what's being rolled out at the moment so the continuity of whatever era her career is at has been solid. She's always been able to recaptivate the audience from a different angle everytime. I love the dichotomy of Madonna. Everyone knows who she is but after 30 some odd years there is still an air of mystique about her.
