Madonna performing at Live Aid in front of 100,000 people in the John F. Kennedy Stadium, Philadelphia USA on the 13th July, 1985. The event was organised by Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for the Ethiopian famine disaster. Broadcast across the world via one of the largest satellite link-ups of all time, the concerts were seen by around 40% of the global population.

This concert and one on Wembley stadium, were simultaneously broadcasted on almost 95% of TV sets in the world. This is something so amazing, never achieved before, and certainly could not be achieved even close nowadays. I was living in a socialist country in eastern Europe, with only two channels, state owned, and they broadcast it live. I was 10 and watched some great live performances for the first time, no stars were doing concerts in East Europe then. Madonna’s performance is amazing, her stage presence is so mesmerizing, she was a star even then, but you could see she was becoming world famous.

In my opinion, the best performance Madonna has ever given as a singer (no theatrics). Also a very young but legendary Jonathan Moffett on drums who also played for many acts including Michael Jackson. I like this performance because although it may sound rough to some, you can definitely make out the sounds of the characteristic instruments used during this period in time.

Just think folks... Dick Clark had to FIGHT with the producers to even include her on the television broadcast, they were so convinced she was a flash in the pan dance artist, and this was AFTER Like a Virgin, Material Girl, Dress You Up, Crazy for You and Into the Groove were released earlier that year. This performance was, at the time, revolutionary. She was the only artist performing at Live Aid with (flamboyant) backup dancers, almost everyone else were old school rock and r&b artists. And this seems so quaint now in terms of stage performances. Madonna kept evolving and changing the game when it came to her tours and awards show performances. Everything you see current pop artists do was basically started with Madonna. She had to prove to all these snobbish, elitist rock artists and critics that she 100% deserved to perform that day. She had already been snubbed when the We Are the World song was recorded. Boy she proved all those a-holes wrong. She's become a bigger success than almost all the other artists that performed at Live Aid, on both the London and Philly stages.

We were lucky to be a generation (X) that got to experience such diverse music and raw talent that will never be able to be repeated. I loved it all as a teen in the 80's from Modonna to Megadeth. Here in 2024 im just really sick of what our country and its people have turned into. Really starting to feel like an Alien visiting a different planet. It has changed so much in 40 years i can only imagine if this planet is still here in 40 more years what it would be like. Im lucky enough to know i wont be here.
