She was answering her critics after scathing media articles in response to her Sex book and Erotica album. And a painful appearance on late night TV. She was responding to how everyone made sexual comments about her but when she owned her sexuality people freaked out. I like how you get all the imagery.

Yup, totally. The line that sums her feeling up kimda best ate.. 'Would it sound better if I was a man?...'Would you like me better if I was?' And 'You and I feel the same way' (ie we all have sexual fantasies.) Some people now younger people really don't realise just how much she and she alone totally and utterly changed the music industry especially for women amd what was deemed as acceptable for them to do and say in their music, videos and interviews etc. Women in the industry today who came after her owe her a huge debt of thanks and respect for wtf she did to advance ehat they're able to do now. And she did this at the very peak of her carrier when she could've lost everything and the media and critics really tied to do just that. So this song as a F U to them all is perfection really.

If you do go back in her discography, you'll understand better that this song is a clap back to the media, critics, politicians, religious leaders and others that had been bashing her for years. She did really step outside social norms at the time (supporting gay rights, people of color, women right to own their own sexuality, AIDS advocacy, etc.) in her past but especially with the album just before this one, Erotica and new singles that accompanied a greatest hits album, Justify my Love and Recue Me.

As others have stated, this video and song are her response to critics and haters who crucified her for releasing her sex book( of sexual fantasies) and her Erotica album and the movie Body of Evidence where they all had a sexual theme. She broke the glass ceiling for woman, especially in music, to own their sexuality instead of men exploiting it.Another video to react to for this period is the uncensored Erotica video, it goes much further sexually.😊
