I remember when I was a 15 year old kid in the UK this video debuted as a Pepsi Ad and they only included about 45 seconds of it, but I recorded it and played that 45 second over and over again, until I could get my hands on a recording of the whole song about 2 weeks later on its first radio play. And then bought the single when it finally came out. We didn't have MTV here in those days. People don't realise how patient we had to be back then. Nowadays everything is instant. Back then we got little teasers and releases like this were huge events.

My 39-year-old husband died December 30th 2023. It was Sudden , I found him crumpled on our bathroom floor and immediately had a flood of adrenaline and was able to drag his 230 lb of solid muscle out of the bathroom so I can start cpr. I am only 5'5 and 138 lb but it is crazy what adrenaline will do! We have children and our world has been completely rocked by this loss. Anyway, all that to say that for some reason, I don't know how but this song ended up being my absolute anthem for my husband. In a fascinating behind-the-scenes reveal, Patrick Leonard, who co-wrote the album Like a Prayer with Madonna, shared that Prince contributed a guitar riff for the intro, which became the backbone of the song’s energetic and spiritual atmosphere. While the initial plan was for Prince to contribute throughout the track, only his iconic guitar intro made it into the final version. Despite not being credited, Prince's influence on the song remains undeniable.

It's the fact she caused a lot of controversy with this one for me... Everything Madonna ever said or did was really necessary and people ignoring her message says a lot about our society, she really used music to her advantage so she could expand the world's limited view on tons of subjects and open our eyes... Wow, she really knows the definition of freedom of speech and will always speak her mind, pretty intellectual woman who never left the legend status because she's a solidified icon. She paved the way and is a trailblazer, she's still relevant and consistent till this day and she was really needed and crucial for our society to evolve. She was a pioneer in a lot of things, music, fashion, and she was always a strong, powerful and fierce woman. This queen broke a lot of taboos and decided to create her own standards, no matter how many people deny that, she will always stay true to herself, will always be a part of history and will keep re-inventing and influencing people worlwide, that's royalty stuff and that's why i will always praise and respect the woman Madonna is.

It's amazing. I heard this song hundreds of times as a kid and then a few years back with adult ears I noticed that bassline throughout the whole track. What an absolutely punishing groove! When it gets to the "life is a mystery" middle eight and then it comes back at the end of the track with the gospel choir, it's such a payoff and I look forward to it every time I hear this song. My daughter at age 11 lost her dad to a sudden death. His death was during the mid night hour, this song was at it's popular peak and she played it constantly over and over. Although we never discussed the song, I know she was thinking of her dad and the words are so fitting of one losing another. For a long time I thought Madona created this song around losing her mother. It has been27 years and the song still affects me, the sobs come.

To all the Christians criticizing other Christians for liking this song, let me tell you. God can use anyone and anything for his glory. Even people in the world world can sing about God. God is not limited to your church building. God is beyond the scope of anything you can imagine. He can reach peoples hearts through simple song. He can use a painting to bring people to him. He can use a simple line in a song to bring his children to him. God is eternal. and once again, he is not limited by your human standards!!!

I grew up in the 80s and the majority of people thought she was "nasty" and said people who did like her was because of that. Ignoring the fact she's had hit after hit after hit. Similar to what Xtina Aguilera went thru when people didn't understand "why she has to parade around naked and talking about sex". People appreciate her now but the mainstream didn't really praise her back then as much. even the feminists were against her!!! She said this in her speech at Women's Day last year.
