If you ask me, this was the track that made her go from Madonna to MADONNA. It was vastly different than anything she had ever done to that point and it was her first “reinvention.” This was when you knew she was going to be around for a long time.

I agree 100% she has always had the conviction to stay true to herself & never sugar coated shit!!!!! She IMO laid the “template” to female superstardom!!! She broke that STIGMA OF THE 50’s woman & broke barriers & stood her ground never deviated from her own beliefs & stayed true to herself!!! Unbelievable voice!!! LIVE SHOWS INSANE!!! She runs a tight ship on that stage & that’s why she’s the ALL TIME SELLING FEMALE ARTIST!!! She evolved every 3-6 years & added a layer of self-enlightenment & provocative mystique that ONLY MADONNA CAN PUll off, voice is instantly recognizable & she still can bend/dance & hit those notes like she did 25-30 years ago!!!! Longevity & never being afraid to push envelope has made her the first face on the “FEMALE ARTISTS MT RUSHMORE” IM A ROCK/METAL GUY BUT THIS SONG HAS ALWAYS STUCK WITH ME & it just grew on me, but I RESPECT ANY ARTIST MAN OR WOMAN NO MATTER WHAT GENRE OF MUSIC THEY PRETAIN TOO, ILL ALWAYS GIVE LOVE & RESPECT TO ANYONE WHO STAYED HIMBLE TO THE ROOTS THAT GOT THEM THERE & stuck to their laurels!!! She don’t mince words & could care less what you think of her or her point of view on whatever subject matter it is at that very time!!! I F____NG LOVE ANYONE THAT NO MATTER HOW MANY COMMAS THEY HAVE IN BANK ACCOUNT OR FOLLOWERS THEY HAVE IN WHATEVER SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM THEY OREFER, she hasn’t changed her STYLE or tried to cater to someone else’s vision of what “Madonna” should be, MADONNA DOES MADONNA, always has & could give ZERO F___’S if you like it or don’t, she’s still the “OG QUEEN” of pop music & 30+ years she’s still MADONNA!!! Nothing but love & respect for someone that has stayed true to herself for well over 3 decades!!!!

I can tell she is exhausted. People say "she's no Celine Dion" but I have never seen Celine dancing professionally throughout the concert . Mariah Carey lip synced on a World Tour when she had to do some light dancing. Even when you don't dance your breathing may be affected and your body generally tired and unable to support the voice properly if you have danced before singing. Plus they didn't use ear phones live on stage back then. Madonna can sing, there was no autotune when she started her career, so her recordings speak for themselves, and if she gets nervous when singing on stage or her body and voice are tired that's another story. Enya, for example, didn't sing live much, because she got nervous so she mostly lip synced. Same with a blonde singer from Ace of Base.

@@vitorriccardo445 And it not one of her best haha. Yes she did it first, but if Gaga had have been first Madonna would be nothing. They were both mainly influenced by David Bowie so that's probably why they are seen as similar. I also think that the way she demands attention (Madonna I Mean) is fine until she moans when someone is influenced by her. If you want to have the ego and call yourself the queen of pop, take influences as a compliment not as copycats. The chords in Born this Way were the same but that is not an infringement. THOUSANDS of songs have that chord progression, it just hadn't been used in the mainstream for a while.

As someone wrote in the comments that there may have been vocal issues l see it differently. Madonna is and always has been a very brave performer who is not going to allow self consciousness to stop her from delivering the goods. She knows that she's not the greatest singer ever but her steadfast belief in herself along with the emotion that she is projecting here more than fills the bill. I don't think that Madonna is a bad singer at all and the fact that she wrote this masterpiece elevates her all the more.
