madonna and cyndy lauper came out around the same time in the 80s, but madonna had a style that was uniquely hers. a style that nobody had seen before. if you watch despreatly seeking susan, you will see this unigue style.for me a madonna fan for the last 20yrs there is no comparison between madonna and cyndi lauper.

As for the comment of her look changing in 1986 because she became rich or to appeal to a broader audience, many people don't realize her original look came from what she actually was at the time...the rags and tatters of a street waif (a very poor, virtually homeless woman)

I always thought that her "True Blue era" look was to depict herself as a more mature woman, maybe inspired by her marriage with Sean Penn. Her look is similar to the one of a normal housewife (an italian housewife).

@r0bstein Um Madonna's first single was released in October 1982 her first album was released in June 1983, Cyndi's first single and album weren't released until September/October 1983. Madonna and her style came out BEFORE Lauper. These are facts google it

It's too bad At Close Range was not a bigger hit. I thought it was a very good movie. Christopher Walken was excellent in that movie.

it flopped because hemdale productions had more rights to the film than orion did, and they did a weird thing were i they released it only in New York and then Chicago and it didn't do what they had wanted they pulled the movie out of theaters and never released it world wide. The film wasn't given a chance at life i guess you can say. But the reviews for the movie is very position even roger ebert gave it a 3.5 out of 4 stars. The director of the movie also stated that when it was released on video tape it was one of the most rented out movie during the time, so it gave the movie a new life in a way.
