Madonna plays biggest-ever show to 1.6 million fans in Brazil

More than one and a half million fans filled Rio de Janiero's Copacabana beach for Madonna's biggest ever gig. This was her final performance of her seven month long Celebrations tour.
Madonna's website said it was the biggest she had ever done - more than 10 times the 130,000 she played to in Paris in 1987.

I’m not shading Taylor, but I don’t think she would get that crowd in Rio. She’s not as well known in SA as she is in the US and Europe and she hasn’t had as long a career. Most people over 25 don’t like her music or know it very well. Madonna has been around for 40+ years… as she gains new younger fans she still has fans who are now in the 50s and 60s. Taylor is very popular, but she doesn’t have cross-generational appeal. That’s no shade to her… if she’s around for as long as Madonna I’m sure she could get massive crowds.
