I remember when it came out, saying it was "ahead of its time" is sooo overrated. The video was fantastic but Madonna was already known for pushing the envelope, Mark Romanek had already been making good videos for a while, that's the same year when he shot Lenny Kravitz's "Are you gonna go my way" so no, it was not ahead of Mark or Madonna's time.

The whole thing is art. I would not consider myself to be a pure Madonna fan in entirety, if we were to incorporate viewpoints, but I admire certain aspects of her which she has used to her advantage throughout her whole career. She was the first "shock artist queen" to the mainstream media and then she became a humanitarian. I support her humanitarian views and actions but not necessary her political viewpoints or methods. Despite all of that, Madonna is a highly intelligent woman who should never be underestimated.

absolutely correct with that! you've put my feelings on this song into words: a sonic achievement. i can only listen to this trak LOUD AS F^CK because the production is, as you said, WAY ahead of its time. Ironically, this was my gateway song for Madonna, as prior I never really paid attention to her because my mum didn't like her. I was like 11 years old at the time; one of many incidents where I started to really think for myself and choose my own path. I couldn't have turned out any more different than mum! haha I will say that when I played the song for her she couldn't name the artist, so when I told her she was a little shocked and did admit that it is a really pretty song... now there's a laddie!

2020, and still my breath is taken away by this 1992 masterpiece. It was rumoured that Madonna was at "zero percent body fat" when she shot this...with none other than the genius Mark Romanek (ILYSM). Entirely filmed in black and white, each frame is handpainted, hence the vivid blue that comes off as warm and cool at the same time. Ryuichi Sakamoto plays the director, and the minimalist Zen Japanese mood contrasts ever so beautifully with the industrial studio setting. Also, the electronica is simmering in this, boding so ever her revolution when "Ray of Light" came in. Masterclass, masterpiece. One of Madonna's finest!!!

"Rain" I feel it, it's coming [Chorus:] Rain, feel it on my finger tips Hear it on my window pane Your love's coming down like Rain, wash away my sorrow Take away my pain Your love's coming down like rain When your lips are burning mine And you take the time to tell me how you feel When you listen to my words And I know you've heard, I know it's real Rain is what this thunder brings For the first time I can hear my heart sing Call me a fool but I know I'm not I'm gonna stand out here on the mountain top Till I feel your [chorus] When you looked into my eyes And you said goodbye could you see my tears When I turned the other way Did you hear me say I'd wait for all the dark clouds bursting in a perfect sky You promised me when you said goodbye That you'd return when the storm was done And now I'll wait for the light, I'll wait for the sun Till I feel your [chorus] Here comes the sun, here comes the sun And I say, never go away Waiting is the hardest thing (It's strange I feel like I've known you before) I tell myself that if I believe in you (And I want to understand you) In the dream of you (More and more) With all my heart and all my soul (When I'm with you) That by sheer force of will (I feel like a magical child) I will raise you from the ground (Everything strange) And without a sound you'll appear (Everything wild) And surrender to me, to love Rain is what the thunder brings For the first time I can hear my heart sing Call me a fool but I know I'm not I'm gonna stand out here on the mountain top Till I feel your Rain, I feel it, it's coming Your love's coming down like [repeat] [chorus] Rain, I feel it, it's coming Your love's coming down like [repeat] Rain

Agreed.. Live to Tell, This Used To Be My Playground.. but for me her first try at singing a ballad stands out.. "Crazy For You" the lyrics to that song were written by John Bettis.. Who wrote some of the biggest hit singles for the Carpenters in the 1970's.. The way Madonna sings Crazy For You.. you can almost hear her invoking the spirit of the late Karen Carpenter.
@orlandos200010 ай бұрын
@@KNPrince Well put. Another good example of this is Madonna’s vocals on Ghost Town. You can almost hear the beautiful melancholy tone of Karen Carpenter voice come through.

The 90's saw her making some of the best music videos of her career. This one is one of the highlights, the other one directed by Romanek, 'Bedtime Story" being a masterpiece on all levels. And...
