Lyrics:
I have a tale to tell
Sometimes, it gets so hard to hide it well
I was not ready for the fall
Too blind to see the writing on the wall
A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secret I have learned
'Til then, it will burn inside of me
I know where beauty lives
I've seen it once, I know the warmth she gives
The light that you could never see
It shines inside, you can't take that from me
A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secret I have learned
'Til then, it will burn inside of me
The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell the secret I knew
Then will I ever have the chance again?
If I ran away, I'd never have the strength to go very far
How would they hear the beating of my heart?
Will it grow cold, the secret that I hide? Will I grow old?
How will they hear? When will they learn? How will they know?
A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secret I have learned
'Til then, it will burn inside of me
The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell the secret I knew
Then will I ever have the chance again?
A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secret I have learned
'Til then, it will burn inside of me

O vermelho simboliza a luta e conscientização contra a disseminação e preconceito do HIV. Algo assim...

I also thought this look with the shoulder length honey blonde hair brought out her natural beauty more than the short, white blonde hair. She's wearing the same look in the Material girl video, plus dressed in formal wear, and she looks stunning. Wish they'd picked a better dress for her to wear for this video, but the video was reflecting the theme of the movie, so I get it.

I'm 45 now. I remember playing this song in my walk-man on my way home from a beach vacation that we took every summer. I was always so sad when we left. I say the same about the music of the mid 60's through the late 70's. Our youth has a lot to do with they way we listened to music and the memories we have attached to that music. That creates a VERY strong bond and it becomes our "Nostalgia". But, like one person said, Patrick Ray Leonard use of the more modern Keyboards, which were Synthesizers, made a difference. And like he said, you can hear it in this song. I think the use of the "Synthesizers" and the "Electronic Drum Machine" was by far the biggest difference in the music of the 80's. There was a bit of it in the 70's but it was certainly an 80's style. What followed was new genre's of music, Synth Music, Techno, Electronic Dance Music, Disco, etc... I wasn't a fan of that style so it was easy for me to pick up on the change in music. It's simply because I didn't grow up with that music. I was more of a Zeppelin, Stones, Pink Floyd, CCR, Rush, the list goes on, kind of fan. Because it's what I knew. But there were a few of Madonna's songs I liked. This being one of them. And I think her album "Ray Of Light" is amazing.
@dianerobinson5336
@dianerobinson5336 2 күн бұрын
@@zdenekburian-bc9hm Spot on. Synthesizers and I would add the use of the Drum Machine. The use of it in this song sounds good. Those 2 things, in my opinion was the 80's rolled up in a musical package. But a little Synth and Drum Machine can go a long way. And that's just my fan of 67-79's music opinion. I think music will ALWAYS be a generational thing. It's just the way of things. : >)

Extra bittersweet for me...I grew up in the area where this movie was filmed. The opening scene is the way the "old" Franklin Tennessee and surrounding area looked. My Grandmother lived just a few blocks from the square. As a child we would walk uptown to shop. I grew up swimming in the rock quarry that the swimming scenes were filmed in and was on medical standby the days they filmed. The 80's and the music were special. This song takes me back....

Live to Tell is part of her “True Blue” album, which was, when it came out, her best-selling album (her best-selling album is 1990’s “The Immaculate Collection”, which is basically a greatest hits album). In general, her True Blue album got big praise, one of reasons being Madonna’s voice and how it was stronger and less bubbly than it was before. In this era, Madonna showcases her versatility so well, and that’s one of the reasons why I personally think this was Madonna’s “height” if you will :D

StarlightShadowDancer Oh no, of course. That's one of the things I hated about watching Stranger Things. Despite being a great show (As well as taking place the year I was born) it just reminded me of something we'll never have again. There were no smart phones, or internet, family shows had some kind of lesson and not an agenda, being American was a point of pride. Anyhow... I imagine watching that show is like being with the prom queen back in high school and remembering how great she was, then showing up to the ten year reunion where she has three kids with three fathers, on her third shitty marriage and is seven months sober and clean from a heroin addiction. Yet you see her yearbook photo and walk down memory lane with her... then see her as she is now. Or for a woman to do the same with the Quarterback. The contrast is just... too much.

The 80s were a hard time for some. Wasn’t easy. It’s when I came up. With friends. With friends doin petty crimes and tearassin around Phoenix. Guns pulled on me. Girlfriends. From Job to job. My Single mom with 3 boys, and her mom to support as well. Transplanted from Pennsylvania by way of San Diego of the land of 1977. My point is that with all this in my life plus a helluva a lot more, is that after all this time, I’ve been able to live to tell. And when I first heard this on the radio in my room by myself, well, somehow it spoke to me. I knew it was one of my songs for life. And since then, it has always burned inside of me every time I hear it. “We know who we are, but no not what we may be.”

I like this because this is telling a story, and it comes from the depth and shows angst of a woman who has gone through a hard heart-break. Of course, men can relate to that happening to them, as well. She also says she now understand where beauty lives. She's beginning to mature and can see different possibilities that the younger version couldn't see, and that she is rising above it all. I love this song, too. I could agree that it's Madonna's best song.
