I was the costume designer and stylist on set for this video. Super-fun gig. Love to see it coming around again. This was shot on a sound stage in Queens, and directed by James Foley. Yup, THAT James Foley. Madonna's dress has 80 separate pieces sewn together so it would move beautifully, and she could dance without it shifting. No stretch material involved. Yes, that's Debi Mazar and the black girl is Erica, a frequent backup dancer for Madonna. The Latina's name I don't recall, she was someone's cute friend. At the time (1986), Madonna and Sean were very much in love, and an adorable couple.

I loved this album I begged and hinted that I would just die if I didn’t have this album for Christmas Then Christmas Day cane my Dad said it was sold out He looked everywhere I sorely disappointed So went to my Grandparents house for Our Annual Christmas Dinner had a great time with my family and friends Came home was getting ready for bed when my Dad said Treda (don’t ask Y he always called me that ) But I was like yes sir he said again sorry bout not getting the Madonna album I was like it’s ok From the corner of my eye I saw my Mother laffing I’m like wth in my head of course and he said can you get me a pop out the fridge...that’s weird so I opened the door and there it was Brand new in clean clear plastic Madonna’s new album True Blue I was like Wooow gave both of them the biggest hug and they even let me listen to it on the Stereo system My dad had the baddest loudest stereo system on our street My Mother said not to loud and wear your earphones they were HUGE,,,,it was a Christmas I still gush about They saved the best for last Great Christmas

Macgyver and the wonder years are among my favourite shows, and meatloaf is my favourite artist, he did a lot in the 80s, as well as others like fleetwood mac and the bangles. So yeah their were a few good things in the 90s, but the 80s triumphs, in movies, music, shows and video games. Well that's just my taste, but it looks like their are a few who agree with me.

Interesting comment and I never thought of it this way before. In the 60's and 70's everything was still being invented and created for the first time. Spaceships, airplanes, cars, etc. The 80's and 90's were enjoying the fruits of it all. It was the end and culmination of the industrial age and came to a cultural explosion transitioning to the information age. (Class of 1981) What kind of cultural explosion it was I cannot put into words, but Friday nights were high schoolers drinking beer watching MTV and it was all music videos. MTV had just come with cable TV.

Look sweetie, I'm 43 years old and I was alive during the 80s and while Madonna was provacative in her early years, she wasn't THAT shocking, and not as overtly sexual as her later incarnations. You're talking like the 80s was the Victorian era. People had been overtly sexual before her you know. And her Lucky Star video? Racy? LOL!!! Yeah no. If it was that racy, every little girl of that era wouldn't have dressed like her, but they did. Actually in True Blue era she toned down her sexuality a bit, and seemed to be more remote around the media in comparison with Like A Virgin Era (of course the teenage pregnacy topic or a kid at strip club might stirred it a bit but they were no where as scandalous as the previous year). No TV or award performances, just touring. She was probably enjoying her mariage with Sean Penn. Funny because True Blue became her biggest album of her career.

Fun fact, her “True Blue” album still remains one of the best selling albums of all time. Three different songs from the album were number one hits on the US Billboard Hot 100: “Live to Tell”, “Papa Don’t Preach”, and “Open Your Heart”. My mom always told me just how ENORMOUS Madonna was in the 80’s :D And edit for June 2023, the True Blue album got a very positive response because Madonna was more gritty and her voice was stronger or more powerful than before. I personally think True Blue is her best album and her “height” if you will :)

This was Madonna back in 1986 and she just kept coming out with bigger and better songs over the years. True Blue was a huge it back in 1986 and everyone was into the Madonna craze and she was all over the place. Madonna worked hard to get where she is I have all of her videos on DVD and all of her albums also the one Celebration 40 Yrs of Music and Madonna is now 65 and still performing its insane. I got to see Madonna in 1990 Blonde Ambition World Tour 1990 and I was 12. That was my birthday present to see Madonna live on stage. How cool was that. She puts on quite a show. Madonna was huge in the 80s 90s 2000s and even more so now. She had a heath scare and almost had to cancel her concert. Madonna will always been the queen of pop.

Madonna is Madonna. She is certainly not a scam. She has written, co-written, co-produced and recorded some of the greatest pop music of the last 30+ years. Her videos are the stuff of legend. Her live performances are awesome from the very first Virgin Tour through Blond Ambition, Girlie Show, Confessions up to the last MDNA tour. She is an underrated pop melodist and lyricist. People like Nile Rodgers, Rick Nowels, David Forster, Mirwais etc are all on record saying just this. But people hate to think some little white lady has that much creativity in her. I'm an ex-dancer and dance teacher and I bow down to Madonna as a technically brilliant dancer with that extra special something. Her vocals in the studio, particularly on her ballads, are gorgeous. Her voice is utterly unique and distinctive. The True Blue and Like a Prayer albums are classics in the pop pantheon and Ray of Light and Confessions on a Dance Floor rank among the greatest and most cohesive pop albums of the last 15 years. Obviously one can dislike Madonna and her music but she is the real deal and she achieved all this long before KZbin and the internet. I saw her in December 1982 and January 1983 at Danceteria and she was the best thing there those nights. The only good thing there, actually!
