vibration, it's done with the metal resonating throughout the instrument itself, it's actualy shaped more like a ufo, than a dome. the bottom half is called the "gu" side, and resonates the base yet also gives the sound depth. crazy instrument. i got lucky and got an innersound which is a "clone" of the hang, other companies create a similar instrument called the "handpan",

LOVED this vid!! it was what i needed after a rough day. I've been wanting to do something like that here in Hollyywood. I'm currently renting a drum so I can learn the techniques a lil before I buy mine. Just need someone to show me the proper sound and tuning. I'm renting a clasped skin one. I want to get a real hand crafted one for purchase.

its called a hang. made by panart. good luck on getting one. it costs an arm and a leg and theres a three year waiting list and possibly a trip to Switzerland. i know because ive wanted one for a long time. and if you want one from ebay, i just saw one that was 6 thousand dollars, which is actually illegal to do. when you get one you have to sign a paper that youll only sell it back to panArt.
